Just to let the people who were enquiring about log burners know that a fireplace exhibition is taking place from 19-26 November www.daliko.com

ours is now fitted
what a brilliant job that the fitters did as well, clean tidy efficient
we are now snug as bugs in rugs
best thing we ever invested in

for those still out there buying

apparantly Thermodynamics which is where we bought from in the end
DO
sell seccond hand woodburners as well as new ones (when in stock)

we definitely would recomend this company by the way

excellent from beginning to end

May I ask where you are getting your logs from Maggie and the cost?
We have bought what was a load equal to 2 twin cab loads but it doesn't look much to me.
Another friend has also had some delivered which look better but still not a great deal for the money paid.
I know wood is expensive here but it seems to vary greatly in type, amount and cost.

Hi Beverly
we bought from our local village peyia.....at the tyre place Nikolai across from the post office...all the local villagers buy from this supplier
we got ALL hard woods
they cut it to size
a twin cab full
for
150 euro's
first winter
so not sure as to how many we will burn.
for the last few nights we have burned @ 3-4 kilo's of logs a night and we are absolutely toasty hot
lovely to feel warm and the fire in the corner as you know looks fabulous
hope this helps

Thanks for that Maggie. We got 2 twin cabs full, lemon and Kasarina ( I think that is how you spell it)for 150 so it seems that was a fair price for soft and hard wood mixed. We will see how it burns and how long it lasts and definately go and see the guy at the tyre place.
Let us know how long your 1 cab full lasts.
We as yet have not put the fire on as 1 bar on the gas super ser heater is keeping us adequately warm for now and with the price of wood being so high we will hold out as long as possible before indulging! You are making us tempted though with your description!

others may know of better deals as we are only newbies to needing and using wood for wood burners

what we have learned is that seasoned hardwoods burn longer and hotter than soft woods
so ask only for seasoned hard woods
we got a mixture of predominately
carob and olive with a small amount of lemon in there
for amount of wood

we put 2 wooden sunbeds togeather and stacked the logs on top....and the pile is well over 2 feet high and fills the 2 x 6ft 6 inch sun beds x 5 ft wide....so a substantial amount of hard wood...we then covered with a tarp

we have scrumaged around and found pallets and such and chopped ourselves the kindling
plus we have picked pine cones off the ground when ever we have been out and about for more kindling

we bought a new gas fire last year...but have decided after freezing last year and the wet and damp that the gas fire eventually caused...to use the fire....

we reason that if we use 1 or 2 more loads to get through the winter it is nothing to feel so warm and cozy and dry

keep warm and dry all
