Very expensive experience !

Two persons, I had starter of mozzerella sticks (4) and my friend had octopus.
Main course – chicken in garlic sauce (the chicken was very rubbery) and my friend had penne pasta
We had 4 glasses of wine and a bottle of water – the cost €68.00 !

I have not tried that one ..

Oh dear we used to go quite a bit always early for their specials that were cheaper-- shame its not up to scratch. Marj

Double the cost of what you would expect to pay for a couple in most places and for something that sounds sub standard.You won't be going back then?
We will give it a miss as it is a little rich for our budget.

(a bit off subject but...) I had a lovely dish of mozzarella sticks on a super salad with sweet chilli dip €3.50 at Stuart's diner, it was very good, worthy of any upmarket eatery and not often found on a menu, plenty for lunch as well, I really believe it's not the venue but the skills of the chef that count, also had a citrus mousse and it was to die for. What a contrast in price! I couldn't have enjoyed it more anywhere.

If you and your friend were both drinking the same wine, it would probably have been cheaper to buy a bottle (approx 5 glasses, depending on size of glass & how full you pour them! ) rather than buy 4 separate glasses of wine.

But I do agree, that seems rather pricey - and from what you wrote, not that good either. Suspect we'll be sticking to good old hillbilly values up here in the villages.

Hi Kay, yes it would have been better to buy a bottle BUT the waiter advised us
to be buy the little bottles ! Obviously know why now !

What restaurants would you recommend up in the villages ?

In Polemi, there is the Olive Tree for consistently good quality grilled food - their pork chops are HUGE, and when I'm in a "messy" mood, I love their rack of ribs.

There is also Kokkinos, which has a more varied menu, including lamb tavvas (yummy) - and the portions are not small.

In Tsada, we like the Fountain of Yerolakkas with its superb view down the valley to Paphos and out to sea. (Bring a woolly or light jacket on cooler evenings!)

In Kallepeia, we always get good food and a good price from Christakis and Elisabeth at To Konatzi Tis Kallepeia. If you turn up on a Friday night and stay late enough, Christakis will start the dancing and encourage you to join in.

In Simou village, on Friday nights, we sometimes go to the coffee shop where Georgia's parents offer a mini meze - might be mini, but you can have seconds of whatever you want! Last time we went, it was the village's theatre night - Punch & Judy Cypriot style. Great fun for all the family, from granny to babe in arms!

Just below Simou, overlooking the Evretou dam, is Sa Buneri, well worth a visit even if just for morning coffee! The views are good, and so is the food.

In Letymbou, the Letymbou Tavern serves (amongst other things) the largest and most varied meze I have had so far, with seasonal variations.

As a general rule, we pay between €25 and €40 per couple, including wine (I do enjoy the Kolios red, Status 99!), beer, water. Most village tavernas bring fruit, coffee, brandy, zivania, dessert "on the house".
