I have just found the Blue Olive yesterday, had lunch there & it was really nice. Also bought their cold meats, quiche, chix pie and a few other things from the freezer. I was really impressed.

They have got the place up for sale, so fingers crossed whoever takes over, keeps doing the same sort of things. Well worth a visit.

Post subject:  Re: Blue Olive

hate to be odd one out here

we went in last week and had a horrible lunch

edd had the quiche and salad that was great :D

but the chips where cold pre cooked chips that where then re-fried in old fat  and tasted of old fat

I ordered the Tai Chicken.......which was basically 1/2 a pre cooked cold chicken breast..that was then quickly chopped up and then fried ......with a few bits of seasoning and a tin of pineapple added

to be honest it was awful

and for the prices charged...27euro's....we where really disappointed

maybe we went on a bad day

but

we have had much better food at other places and at far better prices

Flipping eck Maggie, I'm really shocked to hear that. We were also there last week in a group, (plus the fact that we often pop down there for lunch) and have never yet had a bad meal.

Did you complain ?? Also how comes it was €27 seems quite a bit for two meals !!

Agree Molly, never had a bad meal there & been loads times now, Never paid more than €22 for 2 people including a sweet & drinks.... weird

I liked the food also , but it just goes to show
that they are only human and get the odd one wrong ..

Or
It could just be that its not there thing, not everyone likes the same thing ..

Post subject:  Re: Blue Olive

Dont dispute that at all Neil - its just that it would be interesting to see what happened if/when they complained and also why the high cost..

Post subject:  Re: Blue Olive

hi

edd had the quiche and a selection of salads.......some chips....... and I had the tai chicken with rice..edd had one beer and I had a glass of orange juice

edd says just shy of 27 euro's......

we where gob smacked

no we didn't complain...just thought that we would never go again.....we where really disappointed ...as we where both looking forwards to our meal...after reading all of the reviews...

edd enjoyed his salad medley and quiche ...

but not the re warmed up chips....it took 2 minutes after ordering for those chips to have been thrown back in and then served... we would rather have waited and been given fresh

and the tai chicken was a laugh

I suppose I went in with high expectations.....I was not expecting a cold piece of already cooked, cold chicken, which they took from their salad bar... to be quickly fried up in such a way.....and then to add a tin of pineapples to the mix .....I had more tinned pineapple than I had chicken......that meal was tasteless and thrown together...and it tasted like a thrown together 2 minutes dinner

just me maybe.......but I can't call re-hashing already cooked food as cooking.....to me it wasn't cooking as much as throwing stuff in a pan and reheating already cooked food in a different format

we have been left with the thought, wrongly or rightly.... that the hot food there.... is really pre cooked food..... even chips...re warmed up to whatever dish they have in mind as quickly as possible

maybe it was a bad day.......or a bad choice on offer

but we truly where not impressed at all

sorry

only telling it as it is

and how we found it

would luv to have said it was great like the rest of you :D

but can't

maggie

I think it is more of a salad bar type menu , thats why I said earlier
that I would wait until the weather got better before I went there .
It does have 1 - 2 hot dishes , but I would say its more of a summer lunch place ..

A few of us went down there the other day for lunch and a couple of us had ham, eggs and chips, (which was lovely), which is. €7.50 each

Chips are €2. a portion.

A large Keo is €2.50 and a large glass of wine is €2. .........

Such a shame you had a bad experience Maggie, goodness knows what went on that day. Next time I go down there I'll have a word !!..............
