Having recently returned from a holiday to Thailand, we would now like to do some of our own Thai recipes.

Despite the good range of Thai related products on the supermarket shelves, especially Papantoniou's, what we have so far failed to find is Thai Glutinous or as it is more generally known as 'sticky' rice. :(

Does anyone know where we can get this from in Cyprus?

Is there a Thai/Asian shop anywhere as the Thai/Chinese restaurants in Paphos must get their products from somewhere!

Thanks

Derek & Sylv

Thanks Marj
Paps in Chloraka is not one we tend to use - usually go to the main one in town by the traffic lights! (and they certainly didn't have any)
Looks like a visit to Chloraka tomorrow.

Thanks

That's interesting.
I too have been looking for "sticky" rice over here and have been unable to find it anywhere.
We found the Jasmine "fragrant" rice but not the "sticky" and I thought that was what they had in Chloraka Paps but perhaps I missed it. I'll look more closely next time.
The largest range of Thai spices etc. that we have found so far is stocked in the "tourist" paps in Kato.

Visited Paps in Chloraka today
Definitely no 'sticky' rice. Lots of Basmati, Jasmine etc but these are not the same.
Also a good range of other Thai products, such as four different curry pastes including our favourite Massaman curry, lemon grass, kaffir lime leaves, galangal (Thai ginger), coconut cream and coconut milk.

Won't give up just yet in getting 'sticky' rice though

Cheers

Derek

Sorry - don't know where you can find the "sticky " rice but you can buy fresh lemon grass in the fruit and veg shop in the russian quarter - is it called "The Garden of Eden"? You will find it at the end of either the first or second Aisle .

As you can possibly read from my earlier post I didn't think Paps had it. I have been looking for quite a while but accepted that I may have missed it or that they had got it since my last forray.
I think the only chance would be to ask one of the UK importers if they will get it. I believe UK Direct say they will get anything you want form the UK. I guess it will be "at a price" but this may be the only option apart from getting someone to bring it out for you.
Good luck and please let me know if you do find it anywhere.

I am popping back to England soon, I think, so will try to bring some back. If I had seen this earlier I could have asked a friend, who is returning today to bring some, sorry!.

OK...... What's it worth to tell you where in Paphos you can get it???????? :gossip :gossip :gossip

We found it this morning.....

On the opposite corner to Gan Direct office is a Philipino Kiosk. They have sticky rice and the glutinous powder that you can add to ordinary medium grain rice to make it "sticky"

Looks like a Thai red curry with sticky rice in the next few days then. :celebrate :celebrate :celebrate
