Congratulations to Rochdale on reaching the Play Off finals. Ironic really, the year I started working in Rochdale, they were relegated from the old third division into the fourth, and the year when I leave Rochdale, they could be promoted.
Watched the match on Sky. Rochdale had the edge for most of the game and did deserve to win on penalties, which were all of a high quality. Rachel also watched the game, and it was fun watching her pick out friends from school who were at the game. As usual, the ticket allocation was abyssmal, and some of the regular supporters, who had travelled to the Darlington game and watched throughout the season, did not get tickets. They should get tickets for the final though.
My memories of watching the Dale, going to Tranmere on a Friday night, when it was ******* down with rain. Not being allowed in the stands, as we were away supporters, even though in our group there were two police officers, carrying their warrant cards, and two teachers. Having to stand in the uncovered end. Losing 6-0, and still wet through when we got back to Rochdale for last orders.
On another occasion, when both Tranmere and Rochdale both needed a point to avoid applying for re-election to the football league, watching a 2-2 draw, with all goals scored in the first half, and the second half just being a complete farce.
However, the club appears to be moving forward. They have good relationships with the local community, and Keith Hicks and his team do really good work in schools.
Roll on next Monday, a trip to Wembley. The last time Dale were in a final was in the early years of the League Cup, when they lost to Norwich City. We will be in Cyprus, but the rest of Rochdale will be at Wembley.
