The countdown to the new season starts here! :D

Newcastle have announced pre-season games against Valencia and Rangers - just hope the beggars behave themselves a bit better than they did in Manchester!

Huddersfield Town are playing Arsenal in August as it is the Terriers centenary year.

It looks like you willbe on The Algarve with Celtic Cardiff and Sunderland !
We have played friendlies at Hibs and Carlisle in recent years and there was major trouble at both games.
Gary
Let's hope they remain " Friendlies"

Toon V Ranger match cancelled due to Celtic winning the SPL, now Rangers have to qualify for the Champions League with a match on the 5/6th Aug, so our friendly has been cancelled

Oh well, we might just have to play Valencia instead on the 9th, thats a real bummer of an alternative isn't it

The Geordies have entered a four team competition to be held in Palma Majorca, August 1st to 3rd. The other teams are Real Mallorca, Hertha Berlin and Hanover 96.
Real Mallorca are my family's second team and play in red, black and white  My son has their first team shirt and we've been to see them twice !
So Come on Mallorca ! if you can't win it, Come on You Germans !
Gary
And while I'm on, I think the clubs should announce these games much earlier than they do. I mean how many Geordies would have gone to Majorca to see the team if they'd known but have already booked holidays elsewhere, it's the same with us, we are playing in The Algarve and if I'd known that I wouldn't have booked for Skiathos in 2 weeks.
I know both clubs have a hard core who will be there but I think I have a point.

I read somewhere yesterday that the TOON army are expect around 60,000 fans to be traveling around Europe following the team this pre-season :o don't know how they know that or whether its true or not but if it is, it's a lot of fans

Just found this: http://www.shieldsgazette.com/nufc/60000-fans-will-follow-Toon.4159629.jp

slightly misleading headline in the link isn't, it implies 60k newcastle fans ten further down it says 60 000 spectators watching the tournament over the 2 days, so it really includes the supporters of the local teams, any holiday makers who hae had enough of the beach and the 1000-2000 newcastle fans who will book a holiday around it (that is still good for a preseason friendly away in another country mind)

shoddy journalism if you ask me

Gary

Bad news for you mate.

According to today's paper's the owner of Real Mallorca has put his 93% of their shares up for sale and Fat Freddie Shepherd is negotiating to buy them. The owner wants them to stay in Spanish hands and will sell them for 40m euros, if Freddie buys them he wants 40m pounds. Seems Freddie is ready to spend some of the 37m he got for selling his shares in the Toon.

Looks like you will need a different second team soon mate.

How's your wrist doing?

Regards.

John

Hi John, Thanks for that info which I was not aware of.
Don't you worry about my wrist....how's yours doing ?
Yes if FFS takes over Real Mallorca or has anything todo with the club, we will find a second team. Shame really as we have followed Mallorca for the past 13 years !
Hey perhaps it could be Paphos FC and on a serious note when I come out I do intend to support the local team and attend the matches.
Gary

If & its a big IF FFS take's over Real Mallorca, I doubt he'll spend all his money on it, so he'll probably be a majority share holder but I doubt he'll buy all 93%, else he'd have nowt left to buy players with or pies

If/when you move over Gary, I'm not sure you'll want to go watch Paphos FC, not sure if you've heard mate but the Cypriot fans are like what the english use to be some 20 years ago, all violence & nothing else, the police just let them get on with it here tho & there aren't any stewards to protect the innocent fans, its carnage

In all the visits we have had across I have never yet been able to take in a match. Hopfully one of these trips I will get to see PAPHOS play. My only worry is I won't know who is who and may end us supporting the wrong team. What colours do they play in?

Is Ketsbia the ex Toon player still manager of one of the big teams on the island?

Getting back to FFS, these folk never spend their own money when they buy things, the most he would do is act as guarantor for a loan to fund the purchase.

Today's papers have reports that Gilette and Hicks claimed around £1.7million between them in expenses in the first 7 months after they bought Liverpool. Although they own the club that money has come out of the operating costs and could have been spent on players or improving facilites or even helping to fund the proposed new ground. Instead it has gone into their back pockets.

Regards.

John
