I'm not a particularly fanatical football supporter, especially Premier League stuff which I think is more about bank balance than talent. The obvious exception to all this is of course the sublime Oxford United who are only biding their time in the Blue Square Conference Premier before they unleash their real talent upon the real football league again after supplying Liverpool with the majority of their talent during the 80'S. I admit total ignorance in terms of nicknames, and after looking through recent posts, I've managed to work out that Pete supports The Toon (Newcastle) and good old discopants supports the Mackems which after a quick google I find means Sunderland. So, just out of interest, and in plain English, who supports who?

Well here's a quick break down on that particular question:

Me - Toon aka Newcastle
Discopants - Mackem aka Sunderland
Smurf - Smoggies aka Middleborough
Paphosfan - The Spurts aka Tottenham Hotspurs
Arsenal - Gunners aka Arsenal
JB - Potters aka Stoke
Captain Fantastic - Toon aka Newcastle
Gotannatog - Villains aka Aston Villa
Boogaloo - The Spurts aka Tottenham Hotspurs
Tanny - The Terrors aka Dundee Utd
Willis - Wet Spams aka West Ham
Terrier Chris - Terriers aka Huddersfield
Trolly Dolly - Mackems aka Sunderland
JGG - Manc USA aka Man Utd & Dons aka Aberdeen

I think thats it but I'll add anymore when I remember them

So I, as an Oxford supporter, am in a bit of a minority then? I do appreciate you putting things in perspective though.

I have to say that soccer's not my first love. I'm not sure if any of you soccer supporters have any rugby allegiance (doubt it) but just to nail my colours to the mast before any season really starts, I totally and unequivocally support the one, the only, the mighty Springboks - gonna blow everyone away this year again.

The Sports bar is open to all sports, not just football & you're always welcome to post your thoughts on the rugby, we do have a couple of people that will reply, I think Tanny is a rugby man also :D

No but team 2 are more famous than team 1.
Well I had the misfortune of visiting Oxford's old ground, was it the county ground ?, in 1992, I believe as we progressed to the FA Cup final.
A complete doodoo hole!
Gary

Hey, I never said it was posh!! The Manor Ground was where I happily spent a lot of my Saturdays when I was young. Now it is the Kassam Stadium (draw your own conclusions from that famous old English name) which only has 3 sides of seating - If you hit it over the bar at one end, you have to get the ball back from the car park!! Having said that, I've had a great time on the 3 occasions I've been there. Good honest football without pretensions or prima donnas. Great atmosphere with an amazing following. Quote Wikipedia...."Oxford United is the best supported club in the Conference National and has had the largest average attendance every year since joining the league."

Sorry Adfam (name ?) of course it was the Manor Ground. It was a cold night when I visited and I was very nearly locked up after the game cos I didn't want to go where the coppers were pushing me.
I remember seing Dennis Tueart score a bicycle kick at Oxford in the 70's, one of the best goals I've ever seen.
Gary
