I've tried getting the phillistines on here interested before, but I don't think any of them have an attention span long enough for a proper game of cricket!

Impressive start to the summer with a comfortable win over the Windies, long may it continue.

An Ashes summer is one of life's great pleasures (especially when the teams are quite evenly matched) and I expect to be spending many happy afternoons down the pub watching events unfold this summer! :cheers

I've agonised long and hard about buying Ashes tickets (Egbaston) as I was a preferential customer but decided not to, thinking I'd do the same as you and spend the days when the matches are on at the pub.

Got 2 tickets on e bay last night for the ODI at Headingley next week for £48.00 although test match cricket is my personal favourite. It better not bloody rain.

It's good to see that at least one person on her has some class teehee ;)

Headingley is one of my favourite venues - used to work there as a steward for the test matches in my student days - got to watch cricket all day and get paid for the privilege!

I think, on balance, it is my favourite ground too. It's proximity to the shops and local bars etc for some decent lunchtime grub is unrivalled.

Followed closely by Edgbaston where I was invited up into the TMS box in 2006 to meet Aggers, CMJ and the others who were commentating.

Enjoyed Old Trafford too but mainly because I witnessed Harmy's demolition of Pakistan in 2006.

I've never actually been to Edgbaston - that and The Oval are still on my "to do" list.

Most impressive cricket ground I've ever been to is the MCG, have also visited the SCG and Adelaide Oval.

One of my ambitions is to take in a test series in the Caribbean - some of the grounds there just look fantastic!

Presumably not the Recreation Ground Antigua though?

Do stupid people deserve to get ripped off? The bidding on 4 tickets to Headingley next Thursday have been bid up to £155 on e bay with over 1 day to go on the auction.
4 tickets in the same stand are available direct from Headingley for £140.

Great start to the second test - good to see some of the top order hitting form ahead of The Ashes....looks like Bopara has nailed down that number 3 position.

Yes it was good to see him cement his position.

No play today as it rained all day.
How on earth did we ever invent the game of cricket in England?

Chester-le-Street in May was always going to be a bit dodgy weather-wise!

Hope we get some play today - maybe a chance for some aggressive captaincy from Strauss....

Looking good now.
70/3 with (hopefully) 2 full days to bowl them out twice.

Cracking performance - sets us up nicely for the summer.

Batting order looking quite settled, but I'll be very interested to see what bowling attack we go with against the Aussies...

From what I'm reading on the cricket site I use (I just soak up the experts opinion) then we may well go with 2 spinners at Sophia Gardens as it's a pitch that has been turned to spin very nicely.

Anderson has been brilliant in both innings of this match.

What a wash out. At least I shall get a £70 refund on the tickets I paid £43 for off e bay.

Didn't even bother going all the way.
Was on the M62 when TMS started on the radio and the way they were talking made me think play wasn't going to happen so we went to the Trafford Centre and I had a new skirt and top and sat in the car park eating our packed lunch. Finally decided to go home at 2.30 and it was the right decision as it was called off at 3.

Could have been worse then - I've sat in grounds for hours in the hope of seeing play a few times, and it's a shocknig way to spend a day!

Me too. Was at Edgbaston in 2006 when England were playing Sri Lanka in the test. Play didn't start until nearly 5 o'clock and we were soaked because there is virtually no shelter there.

Great match tonight. England redeemed themselves from Friday when they were a bigger embarrassment than Gordon Brown.

Sorry I seem to have missed all the feedback about the cricket on friday. What actually happened, who were they playing when they were so cruelly humped by the Dutch.

I hope each of the England players will be awarded a Dutch Cap.

Hey - it's not all about England!! South Africa destroyed the mighty Scotland , although that Scot with the suspiciously South African-sounding name, Kyle Coetzer, made one of the best catches of all time! Can't wait till we play England !!

Demolish the buckfast in 24 seconds.

But good luck against the English.
No on second thoughts save your luck for a hard team as the English will simply wither away before the mighty Sarf Efriga.

I'm still not sure what Stuart Broad was thinking in that last over! :doh

Good to see KP back and in form though, gives us a decent chance....

In Best Western Hotel, Gatwick (great value, and much better than I expected, for future reference), just about to travel into London, but even now it's only 8:30 and I've been up since about 4:30!

I thought I heard Sky Sports say we were playing England in the Super 8, so that should be fun!!

It was unbelievable. I felt like throttling him.

I love watching KP. He makes matches really exciting to watch.

This was puzzling me as we could still be either 1st or 2nd in the group but I have picked this up from a cricket site so it explains it.

........I thought so too, but was reading a fixture the other day and it said seedings are predetermined, if a minnow gets through they take the seeding of the team who misses out so if they all got through, SA, Aus, Eng and India are all in the same group and cant end up in the other.......

Which is rather silly because you end up with one very tough group and one relatively easy group thus ensuring that one of the relative minnows gets through.

Unfortunately I missed the look on Punter's face as Mubarak swatted Brett Lee for another 6. Apparently it was priceless.

Tickets available at TB tomorrow for Ireland v NZ and England v SA at £45. Am trying to keep my hands in my pocket at the moment but it is an appealing prospect.

See, told you we would be fine!

Listened to this one on the radio last night - atmosphere sounded brilliant and the lads did really well to hold their nerve - even with 19 needed off the last over I thought we were still going to blow it!

It was agonising. On the cricket forum I use one of the guys said if we won he was going to gnaw his right arm off and eat it.
He's now offered double or quits if we get through to the semis.

Unlucky there I think - stitched up by the weather. The D/L calculation seemed well harsh to me - chasing down 80 in 9 is a lot easier than 160+ in 20 IMO, especially with the early wickets we got.

Yes that's the conclusion we all came to. With 10 wickets to go at and only 9 overs to get through you can afford to be reckless. In this form of the game when innings always tail off when wickets are lost it is a very unfair method.

However, our batting is rather lacking.

At least we can focus on the Ashes now....

Found out yesterday a couple of friends are coming to visit the week of the 2nd Test at Lords, and they're big cricket fans so I won't be venturing far from the pub that week! :cheers
