Martin, I just knew you would say that. Exactly that. Wished I'd got a bet on it.
Yes the pendulum has swung again. It'll swing a few times before the season is out hopefully.
If it doesn't it means we have been left behind.
Man Utd this week away. It'll get worse before it gets better.

Sometimes you can find you'll dig out results in the most unexpected places. We've managed to get a point at both Stamford Bridge and Old Trafford while losing to rubbish like Fulham and sunderland!

I've been to OT a few times, away fans never expect anything much result-wise, so usually generate a cracking atmosphere anyway, taunting the glory hunters and day trippers!

Few lads on the toon boards have been suggesting winning the deby might actually have turned out to be counter-productive, leading to a bit of complacency setting in?

I see it's official then. They've just been on Soccer AM and the Mackem Mover was voted better than the Geordie Prancer.
Is there anything that Newcastle can beat Sunderland at this season ?
Gary

My mate's funeral today. Never a good time to go but hey what a time this is to go.
He was a die hard Mag. His family are die hard Mags. His beloved Newcastle United were mentioned more than once in the church.
We have had some top, top barnies over the years.
RIP Eric, dear friend.

You know what, given the comical position of Newcastle at the mo and the absolute apathy amongst fans (today 3 season ticket holders have told me that's it !) do you think that a defeat at home to li'l ole Sunlan might be a match too far ?
Bring it on !!!!!

Expect us to lose. Our better players can't wait to get away and the rest are playing like they couldn't give a toss.

There's a noticeable lack of passion here. No insults, bragging, mickey taking, could it be that we both finally realise we are both crap ?
Well having said that, we will win !

I fear the worst - we're decimated by injuries, our best players want out (looking likely Given will have left by this time) and I have little faith in JFK's ability to instill the necessary tactics and discipline.

In terms of potential impact on both teams, this is probably the biggest derby since the play-off semi - I really think that if we lose this we're going down....

It's just not fair is it ?
You probably won't have Owen and Given on Sunday now.
We want to beat you fair and square, but now you muppets will be saying " Well we didn't have im and we didn't have im " when we win and if the truly remarkable happens and you win you'll be saying " Ya couldna beat wor reserves !"
That Carroll is looking good mind.( Seriously)
Last nights 3 points look good now but we ended up playing right sided players on the left and we probs will do again on Sunday and we can't play good like that.
You are in a win win situation................. or are you ?
Let me remind you.
If we win or draw, we are the undisputed top dogs for now.
If we lose, you can't make that claim.
Apart from 3 points, and seing as no one is bragging right now, what have we got to lose ?
Gary

Owen and Barton both out. Slim chance for us if Martins makes it back, but that's looking unlikely (stat from the BBC yesterday - Martins has missed 23 games through injury since he joined us - we've only won 2 of them)

Think we'll lose 2-1. After all, you always win 2-1 don't you?

I doubt very much we'll beat you this weekend mate, not with the injuries we have at present, check this out & add Owen & Barton to that, also, you may have to include Basson who limped off but came back on, you know how these things flare up after... http://www.physioroom.com/news/english_premier_league/epl_injury_table.php

Its a sad time for TOON fans

A few gems here:

I'm dreading Sunday now - sounds like the players have no clue or determination. If the mackems turn us over on Sunday, the City Centre will resemble Bassra on Sunday night.

I don't speak a word of Chinese but I can still tell that the commentators think we're really, really bad.

this chinky bloke just said ah nuuucastle a sheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet

Bad selections are bound to happen when you have the worst manager in the Premiership.

City are s* mind should be taking us apart when we are this poor.

If Bellamy smiles one more time I swear I'm reaching into the screen and ripping his head off.

Leaving Lovenkrands and Jonas on the bench, playing Geremi on wing, playing Colo on DM, all f***ing inexplicable.

Oh wait, there's an easy explanation: Joe Kinnear hasn't got a clue.

Yep, we need to get to HT asap.

jfk needs to reshuffle the team imo, kick some arm-pit and I dunno.....give them a hug?

Have this midfield ever met each other before?

The lack of any thoughts other than f***ing hell, I don't want the ball! is shocking.

Barton looks f***ed. This injury situation is f***ing unbelievable

Yes, similarly to Owen there was not even contact.. He tried to play a pass and just crumbled down in pain..

This is an absolute joke.

Owen and Barton injured. Don't worry though, Cacapa and Ameobi are back to cover in the Derby.

f*** this, I'm off.

f*** me Bassong is down injured now. FFS! Forfeit the mackems match

Our best striker is injured.
Our best midfielder is injured.
Our best defender is injured.
Our best goalkeeper is leaving.

Happy days.

Best striker, best midfielder, best defender all injured in the space of about an hour. That's got to be some sort of record.

Nailed on Bellamy would score. This club is f***ed - one way ticket to the championship.

Every aspect of that goal was a fubar disgrace. From the lack of pressure on the defender who raked it forward, to Enrique just letting his man knock it down, to Geremi not tracking his man, to Taylor standing off Bellamy like a t*** and finally Harper standing there looking disinterested.

No interest in fubar playing at all. Thanks lads.

What an abortion this match has been.

Commentator said Owen on crutches, ankle ligament problem... not good.

sunderland are gonna f***ing kill us
 :celebrate  :celeb2  :clapping  :there  :iamwin

Anton Ferdinand is very doubtful for the morra
That is a big blow for us as it only leaves us with one centre back.
Listen lads you know when we win the geordies usually riot and fight the telephone boxes and bus stops in the Bigg Market ? well behave yourselves the morra and don't go wrecking the fountain or smashing up the taxi's !
I sincerely hope you have a crap day 8-)

You were lucky

We should have had 2 penalties & that goal which was ruled out, apparently for an handball by Shola

Defo a game of 2 halfs, we were doodoo in the 1st & bossed the second I think, if we'd had a recognised striker on the pitch instead of Shola, we'd have been at least 3 up on you easily

You should have seen the lads & lasses in the pub when Shola stood up to take that penalty, none of us could watch, hands over eyes time :smilielol

Reasonably encouraging performance and a draw probably a fair result.

I think we could have edged it if we had managed to get just one of Owen, Martins or Viduka out there - Ameobi squandered so many decent shooting chances it was criminal.

Hope Kenwyne Jones managed to find his way home OK - last I saw he was struggling to climb out of "Robocop" Bassong's back pocket..... :D

p.s. Michael Chopra - once a Geordie, always a Geordie!

Can I provide an unbiased opinion on the game.

The first 20 minutes were very poor with both teams looking very average and none of the players looking like they wanted the ball at all. Initially I wasn't sure about the Sunderland goal as I thught he must have been offside. After seeing it 3 or 4 tmes I think the ref and his assistants got it spot on. Sunderland had the best of the rest of the 1st half and deserved their lead at half time.

The second half was all Newcastle's it was like Sunderland forget to turn up for the second half. The challenge on Duff was never a penalty, he saw the opportunity to kick the defenders leg and deserved to be booked for it. I also don't think Taylor deserved his penalty as he was the one who went in front of the defender and fell over when touched. That was the only decision the ref got wrong.

Having said all of that Newcastle deserved a goal and a draw was probably a fair result. It was certainly the result I wanted before the start.

From a Newcastle point of view it is clear Shola is not a Premiership footballer. CF like you everyone in the pub I was in could not believe it when he stepped up to take the penalty, especially with Nolan in the team. Mind you it was a good pen so give him credit for having the nerve to do that. Other than that the rest of the team looked really average, apart from Carroll who looks like he will run through a brick wall for the team.

From a Sunderland point of view I thought Cisse bottled it when he got hit. It seemed he didn't have the heart for the blood and thunder footbal being played. Jones was ineffective all game and none of the others looked like they had the skill to break down Newcastle's defence.

I think it is going to be a long hard road for both teams for the rest of this season.

Hope you accept this for what it is just one persons view on the game.

Regards

John

I haven't met a geordie yet who thinks they deserved to win. That was not a penalty, if anything Liz Taylor pushed Malbranque.
We could have been 3 or 4 up at half time but were very poor in the second half. Our midfield were poor always giving the ball away. Having said that we had the best chances of the second half and Andy Reid's shot was very close.
Chopra absolutely bottled it.
Bassong was your best player but did not have Jones in his pocket. Jones didn't play well, plenty of effort but nowt else. His goal ratio lately proves he is a good player.
Our best player was Whitehead. I am pleased to see Captain Nutmeg thinks that was a decent performance. On that showing, we are better equipped to stay up than the mags.
Gary

In response to Captain Fantastic's lack of respect and downright foolhardyness, I have re opened this thread.
Newcastle United have announced their pre season friendlies. They are to play Sheffield Wednesday away then take part in a four club Uk tournament between themselves, Wrexham, Bohemians and Raith Rovers at the Scottish club's ground.
Meanwhile Sunderland are pencilled in for a visit to Celtic Park and entry into the prestigious Amsterdam Tournament to be held at the Amsterdam Arena where they will compete with Benfica, Ajax and Atletico Madrid.
The only other previous English representatives have been Man United, Liverpool and Arsenal.
A spokesman for Ajax admitted the prospect of thousands of happy Mackems descending on the bars cafes and brothels in the city was too much to ignore !
Happy Days Are Here Again !
Gary :celebrate

I'm sure you've got better things to do than bother yourself with us lower league clubs Gary.

I meanwhile am going to try and assume the inferiority complex perfected by your mob over the last 20 years and snipe at your lovely big and successful club from the sidelines. I'm sure you'll have no problems rising above it!

Newcastle play Shamrock Rovers and 100 away fans turn up.
We play Celtic away and 5,000 tickets are sold to Sunderland fans.
In 2 weeks we play in the Amsterdam Tournament and 5,000 Mackems will be there including me and my son for 4 days.
Newcastle play Huddersfield that weekend.
The balance of power shifting maybe ?
Never.
Gary
