By the same token, if he isn't tied to a long term contract it's a lot cheaper to get rid of him - can't be good for dressing room morale if the gaffer isn't prepared to commit himself to the club.

Roy has just been on local TV today saying the club and his representatives still some way apart in his contract negotiations. He said if he were to leave at the end of the season he could look back and show the club was much stronger now than when he joined them.

Seems there may still be some unreast behind the scenes and Sunderland could end up without a manager the same as the Toon.

Okay I'll respond to this one. Keane baffles me he really does and that's his problem as I suspect he baffles everyone. The board, the chairman and the players.
He did hint in that interview that he may go at the end of the season. If he is using this as some sort of bartering tool against the board or with regards to his contract he should be possed in doodoo.
What effect will it have on the dressing room him coming out with comments like that ?
I think he is upset at his inability to get the club up the league and has to some extent spat his dummy out.
For a rookie manager I don't think any other club in the country would have afforded him the ammo to make a success of management, the way Sunderland have.
They have bent over backwards and provided him with money for his targets and his backroom staff. I really think they are scared of upsetting him and I wonder just what Keane would do if Quinn commented on our poor displays or indeed, the number of players Keane has spent good money on then loaned out or ignored.
It wouldn't happen anywhere else and it shouldn't happen at my club.
If we lose tomorrow as we probably will, he may just see the crowd turn against him cos contrary to what you may have read it hasn't happened yet.
If he is holding this club ransom over his contract it's a disgrace and I for one hope Quinn has the balls to say sign it or pop off
I want him out. It is apparent to me that he is not a good manager. Our club is not a toy and it is not his toy.
I could be wrong and I hope I am but for me the love affair with Roy Keane was over some time ago and I think it will be over for most of our fans in the next few weeks.

Certainly looks to be struggling, and his cryptic mutterings to the press aren't doing anyone any favours. Signs that he's lost the dressing room, and once that happens not many managers last long.

Still hope he stays!

According to Sky Sports News, he's gone.

Rumour up here in snowy Newcastle is that he has now left the club. Not sure if he was sacked or if he left by himself.

I know things were starting to go a bit wrong for the club but i hope you sort it out quickly to avoid another Barcodes fiasco.

Well, so long Roy Keane, thanks for getting us into the Premiership and for keeping us there last season.
It was apparent to me from early this season that he is out of his depth. It is definately in the best interests of the club that he goes.
With him at the helm we would have been relegated.
I am not concerned about him one iota, same as he will not be concerned about us.
He should come out and thank Sunderland AFC for giving him his chance and for backing him the way they did. He should thank Niall Quinn for allowing him to do what the hell he liked with our money.
He should thank the fans for their support of him when he showed little or none in return.
Will he ? Don't bet on it, mind, he likes publicity so he might.
He has never connected with the fans constantly referring to us as punters. If the punters don't like it they can shove it. A defeat hurts me a thousand more times more than the punters ( Oh Really ?) etc.
We are not punters. We are Sunderland AFC.
He has brought a load of tosh to the club BUT has also brought enough good players to cement a top 10 position with a good manager in charge.
I don't know who that will be. I hope it is not Curbishley or O'Leary. I would not mind Phil Brown who used to support us as a kid, or Big Sam who coached our Youth team and played for us, but I would prefer Martin Jol but don't think he would leave where he is.
Whoever gets the job will inherit the same old problem of attracting players to the club unless we have a good season.
Word is Keane stormed out of a recent meeting with major shareholder Ellis Short and Quinn cos Short had the audacity to ask Keane why he hadn't signed a contract, told him he would get no money in January if he didn't sign then asked him about the likes of Chopra bought for £5m and loaned back to the club we gave £5m to.
Do you know he never moved to the North East and would remain at his home from Satday night until Thursday mornings ? I knew but wouldn't reveal on here for fear of giving certain friends of mine ammunition.

That sounds a pretty fair assessment Gary. All sorts of stories coming out now about his behaviour over the last few months - sounds like he's been unravelling for a while!

Big Sam hot favourite to take over I see - I actually think he would do a good job for you, in a Bolton kind of way: i.e. not pretty, but effective.

Looking at the way things have panned out at our place we would probably have been better off sticking with him.

With the way things have turned out, yes. Obviously I would rather still have KK, but now he's gone, IMO we would be in a far healthier position now if Big Sam was 18 months into his rebuilding job rather than JFK bumbling along captaining a rudderless ship.

I agree with you Martin, Allardyce should have been allowed to rebuild and do his job but that's with hindsight.
I would not be bothered if he got our job. I would be bothered about his prowess in the transfer market though he can't be any worse than Keane.
There will be plenty of idiots saying we don't want him though cos he managed the mags.

Bloody Hell, what's happened here. It seems like a bad case of common sense has broken out on PP.

I have to say you all seem to be talking sense for once, Gary I agree he has served you well but has probably come to the end of his shelf life, he does seem to have been getting stranger and stranger over recent weeks. According to the papers today he actually resigned by Text as he was not taking any calls from Niall.

Watched Strachen interview today at Celtic when he was asked about the Sunderland post, he took a fissy fit and stormed off chastising the press for having the nerve to ask him about that. Not sure he would be the right man for the pressure that will come with your managers role.

Martin, I think you are right about the Toon and Big Sam, with hindsight the return of KKK did not work and you will never know just where you would be now if Sam had been given the time to finish his plans.

I don't think Curbishly is the right chap and I am not sure Brown from Hull has enough expereince, despite what he has managed so far this season. I believe he has already ruled himself out anyway.

You have no chance getting Martin Jol so unless you go for Ramos that just leaves Big Sam (or KKK )

I hope you do sort it out quickly and get the right man for the job, especially with the January window just roiund the corner.

Okay, my info is that a foreign manager could well be appointed, don't know who. They are looking at someone who manages abroad.
I have a mate who was the best man and is the best friend of an ex mag player who has contacts at Sunderland. It seems Anton Ferdinand was dropped last week cos he did an interview with Sky without the right permission. I knew about this last week but said nowt cos I didn't wanna give some friends on here any ammo.Instead of fining him (Ferdinand) Keane decided it was in the club's best interest to drop him( after paying £8m for him) and move Danny Collins, a natural left back into central defence.
In order to do that he had to play Phil Bardsley, a right back, at left back and he played Chimbonda at right back.
This is the same Chimbonda who was told last month he would never play for the first team again. He was only told he was playing at 1.30pm !
The Ego had landed.
In addition, a first team regular whose contract expires next summer has been trying to re negotiate and wants to stay at the club. This player is one of if not the lowest paid regular on a basic wage. His agent has told him that Everton and Blackburn will sign him in the summer and will pay him £10,000 a week more than what he is on.
When he informed Keane of this, Keane ignored him for at leat 6 weeks, even though he plays in the first team !
There will be lots of tosh written about Keane but the above two tales are from a very reliable source.
