Anyone know of local grounds for football ?

Also any "5-a-side" leagues for unfit people ? :D

BigDutch,

Thats not a bad idea actually, we should get a 5-a-side league going :P

It wouldn't take much but it would have to be a winter or end of summer thing as I for one wouldn't want to be running around a footie field in 40c temps

So if anyone as some spare time on their hands, we could have a mini league running soon :!: All we need are 6 people who support the same teams, like the TOON, Spurs, Hearts, Sunderland, Man U, Arsenal etc etc, then start meeting for game :!:

Also, a darts league would be good too

I believe that we already have both in the paphos region.
The 5 a side clubs are up behind the aliathon hotel
and paphos already has an extensive darts league

I think there's definitely some mileage in arranging a Paphos People kick-about - all we need is 10 blokes who'll turn up regularly and are all similarly old and unfit!

I would be up for a game maybe once a week - can't manage any more these days with my glass ankles!

You up for arranging something Pete?

Once a week is plenty for me too, followed by a beer to replenish all those burnt off calories.

i last played (one hour) two years back in late afternoon mid-June ... bugger me with a ten-foot barge pole, was hardcore. As long as we avoid June-Sept inclusive then shouldn't be too bad.

If i remember the facilty was in Emba / Mesoyi and they had two floodlit astroturf 5-a-side pitches.

Yeah, I've played at the Emba one. There's also a couple of pitches down Yeroskipou, opposite the water park. Think it was around CYP25 an hour, although they give discounts if you make block-bookings.

First game after not playing for a while is always a nightmare, but I find the fitness usually comes back quite quickly after that.

Playing in summer is do-able if you leave it until later in the evenings, just means there needs to be more post-match beers to sort out the hydration issues!

Any more volunteers?

Sounds like a plan, we could kill 2 birds with 1 stone...

Go play 5-a-side & then retire to the pub & play darts while we recover from the footie..

I'm defo up for that, haven't played in a while, so should be a laugh if nowt else

Not yet, but we're getting closer - I think that's us up to 7 players now if you're up for it!

No no no. I qualify!! Honestly, I must play.......I broke my left ankle 18 months ago and since then I have only been able to run sideways!

In all honestly, I am totally unfit and will blend in nicely.

I will let you use my ball if you let me play.

Hi Guys

Will you be needing some cheerleaders?

I am sure I can rope in some of the gals to knit a few pom poms!!!

Any chance of this coming into practice?

I am desperate to try and get some fitness back and it would be good to have a regular social activity other than drinking beer!

Well if everyone who has said they would play turns up we have 8 so far, almost enough for a game amongst ourselves.

If arsenal's lads are up for a game that might be something we could look at, but if they've been playing every Tuesday for a while and none of us have played at all for ages, it could be carnage!

nobody's pm'd yet,
i'm sure our lads would be up for a game, i don't think it would be carnage, after all the only decent players we've got are, chopper harris, norm "bites your legs" hunter, tommy "breaks your legs" smith, & jon boy "vinny jones"

& there just the officials

seriously though, if anybody fancy's watching a game, on sunday we have a match against the "bosses" team, he's organized some scouts from gillingham to come & watch the youngsters, so if you want to come & watch we kick off @ 10am.
it's being played at the forza pitches in yeroskipou, come and cheer me on, & introduce yourselves, i'll probally be playing right back, you wont miss me, the good looking one with a bald head.

bit of luck, see you there

Is that 7.15 am or pm?

let me tell you, as far as i'm concerned, there's only 1 7.15 in a day, and that comes 5 minutes after 7.10 in the evening :smilielol :smilielol

pete, dont worry, there are toilets on site :smilielol :smilielol :smilielol

if anybody has any mates that can play get them involved,

i'm thinking about organizing a 5-side competition, would anybody be up for that?

Aye, I'll give the 5-a-side a crack - preferable to hauling my unfit a ss around a full size pitch, need to work up to that i reckon!
