I'm confused about Turkey, how can they be in the Euro 2008 when they're not in Europe or the EU yet

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Colin_Kazim-Richards a good Euro tournament for this lad so far turns out he plays for Turkey only because his mum is Turkish Cypriot ! Quite how that works i have no idea considering the political situation he should be eligible for Cyprus not Turkey - weird ! TC leader Talat is in the stadium tonight with the Turkish president! Turkey looking very good against Germany in tonights game. Outsiders to win ? |

I thought Russia were in the EU now Its not really a 'European Cup' anymore, its more of 'any team that wants to play cup'
