Post subject: A law unto themselves!!
PostPosted: Sat Aug 02, 2008 12:57 pm
What is it with football player that they seem to think they're a law unto themselves or is the way their managers treat them that make them behave like thugs

First we had Cantona doing a flying jump kick at a fan live on TV :o then we have Keano who think that ruining another football players career is worth reading about in his book  Diouff who think's he's 'Spit the dog' & now we have Shrek who thinks spitting at a journo is 'Blameless' As well as other players like Barton for ABH in & out of football, Dyer & Bower for having a lovers tiff on the field & probably more as well

Why do these player think they can get away with such attrocities & not be brought up on charges for breaking the laws of the land :? :?

When are the FA going to crack donw on this sort of stuff firmly :?

Gary, if you want to bite feel free but it was after reading the crap about Rooney, I thought to myself why do some footballers think they're above the law, now if you don't want to post anything regarding this, then don't, it's a free discussion mate, not a stab at you or anyone else in particluar

I agree with almost everything you say on this one.

The players, even the so called family folk think they can do whet they want. In addition to the ones you named I seem to recall John Terry being reported as peeing on a dance floor in a night club last year because he couldn't be bothered to go to the loo. We had the West Hame player a few years ago standing on the bar in an ightclub peeing on everyone becuae he thought he was the big I am. In one of the papers over the weekend there was a report of an unnamed Premiership player who on a night out stamped on his £30,000 watch just to show to folk how rich he was. What a total Prat.

I think this season could be a turning point with normal folk like us lot saying enough is enough and attendance at football falling off. I know of many folk around Newcastle who have decided not to renew their season tickets and to spend the money going to see local football instead. Newcastle themselves are now advertising on local radio saying their are season tickets available for most parts of the ground. That was not a dig at the Toon by the way I am certain that trend will be hitting other clubs as well.

I do however find one point you make a bit surprising. You ask when are the FA going to do something at these thugs, isn't that whet they are doing with Joey Barton, but you disagreed with that because his offence happened while he was at another club. That view doesn't seem to fit well with your comments in this thread. Which one is then, go after the thugs using all the powers within the game or let them off if they have moved clubs since the event happened?

Cheers.

John

Well I stand by the fact that the FA should do something but what Barton did, he did when he played for Citey so why should Newcastle have to suffer because of something he did when he wasn't a TOON player, that's what I'm saying

I do think Barton should be banned but then I think Citey should be made to pay his wages while he's banned instead of the TOON, as he wasn't our player at the time of the attack for which he'll be banned for  :o

Its like saying the Spurts are responsible for something that Darren Bent did while he was at Charlton, I know you wouldn't be too happy if they banned him & you had to pay his wages while he was unable to play for you, now would you :? :?

The point you are missing on this one is the fact the likelihood of this happening was known to Newcastle when they bought him. He had already been charged ay the police so you knew what you were getting. Given that fact then you can't blame anyone else but yourselves.

Even if Man City did pay his wages how would that help you lot with a player missing for 10 or 15 games.

I think the person who does owe you lot something is Barton himself, he should be saying to Newcastle, "Thanks for standing by me, as a gesture of thanks here is my wages for the period I was in jail and for the period I am banned - lets donate them to a worthy cause such as Bobby Robson's cancer appeal".

If he did that the Toon supporters would get off his back. Is he likely to do that? Of course not he is as bad as the others and will have no conscience reagrding the obscene amounts he has had for nothing.

Cheers

That's a good reply Boogs and Barton's advisors could do a lot worse than to do just that. Barton was requested whilst in prison to half his wages by Newcastle and would not.
It's already been pointed out to Pete by Smurf and myself that surely Newcastle knew there would be FA action following the court case yet still they persisted and bought the thug.
Newcastle are now planning to give him a ban themselves are they not, in the hope the FA go easy on him. That is also an attempt to appease their supporters but in reality it will be nothing as he would be serving an FA ban anyway.

How the hell can Newcastle justify banning him. He has done nowt wrong as a Toon player, his issues were before he joined them. Even that lot can't be so stupid as to think that will help their case. Can just see Newcastle announcing a 5 match ban and the FA saying they will give him another 15 games once that one has finished.

You just couldn't make it up could you.

Cheers
