I know it's git early an all that but for a bit of fun, give 5 teams who you think may go down and next April/May we can look back and see how accurate or how ridiculous we were. I'll start but just tell it as you think.
West Brom
Fulham
West Ham
Newcastle
Boro.
The one who is cleverest could win something but hopefully a bit more than a mars bar !

Post subject:  Re: Who'll go down ?

On todays happenings, I think I'm going to change my mind as to who'll go down:

16th - Bolton
17th - Stoke
18th - West Brom
19th - Portsmouth
20th - Fulham

Its seems not only that Arrys left Portsmouth today but they're seriously struggling with funds also, as there Russian owner has lost a packet in this financial crash  so they may well be selling most of there player in Jan transfer window

If he does it every week like he's likely to then there's no point having the thread is there ?

Based on last night, WBA look certainties for the drop unless they can buy a decent striker in January - play plenty nice football but zero cutting edge.

Spurs? They've been there a while mate....

Everyone still happy with their predictions? There are currently 14 teams no more than 4 points from safety - incredible really at this stage of the season. Even Hull could still get dragged in if their form slumps, so there's realistically still 15 who could go down - going to be a real roller-coaster I reckon.

Couple of wins and you're in a European spot, 2 defeats and you're in the bottom 3 - not much margin for error!

Post subject:  Re: Who'll go down ?

Well, have to say we're in contention. Today we played Pompey off the park first half and could easily have gone in at half time 4-0 up.
But same as against Citeh we lost. Hoping the Jones and Cisse partnership can bring goals cos we need em.
12 points from 12 games, ain't ower good is it ?
Bolton beating Hull was a bad result for us today.

dont worry about it yet! its not like we never played well is it? if we play like that the results will come, dont forget we still have jones to get match fit, and gordon to get back in goal! and the refs cant ruin every remaining game for us can they?

Post subject:  Re: Who'll go down ?

those were my original predictions,
and I will not change now, even tho'
I feel there will be a difference.

Why change now?

As the season progresses, there will
obviously be different " ups & downs "

But, I will stick by my first post.

Others might change their predictions or their minds as the season
goes on, ( and some have ) but we could all do that every week.

I stand by my 1st. prediction.

Well I hope you are wrong. I wouldn't rule us out of it yet - not by a long chalk. I honestly can't call it, too many teams, too few points between them. It could be so many! West Ham are looking decidedly dodgy and I personally think the Zola appointment was a huge huge gamble. Plus I son't think they have any money to spend in Jan.

So I will plump for:

West Ham
West Brom
Stoke

Author:  Jolly Green Giant [ Sun Nov 09, 2008 10:35 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: Who'll go down ?

I also hope I am wrong with my predictions
as some of my 3 are " money makers " for the other clubs.

If i am correct, there is only 1 team in the PL who have never
been relegated.

Maybe, someone could clarify this?

Presuming by PL you mean the top division of the English Football League ;-)

I think maybe Everton and Arsenal, but not certain.

Now if I was you I would leave it at that BUT I am not you and you will no doubt feel the need to post a banal reply.
I will just say that your lot got a very good unexpected point today as did Fulham and Bolton got 3 unexpected points and it just shows how tight this season is gonna be.
Wish I knew the three who were gonna go down, I'd make a fortune !

Post subject:  Re: Who'll go down ?

I think we are in serious, serious trouble. With no takeover on the cards, we're stuck with JFK and frankly he is clueless and his constant rants at referess etc are becoming increasingly embarrassing.

We've taken 2 points from home games against Hull, Blackburn, Wigan and Stoke and we can't win away.

We have a woefully small squad, including only 2 specialist full backs and 3 central midfielders, all of who are currently injured. We finished Saturday's game with a centre half at right back, our only right back on the right wing and a centre half and right winger occupying central midfield.

It's a shambles and only looks like getting worse - if Owen leaves in Jan and/or Martins gets injured we're utterly screwed.

Post subject:  Re: Who'll go down ?

Now I'm not wanting to steal the geordies thunder, but I did watch the game today and on that showing Pompey will be in a relegation fight.
I think they will sell some players in Jan and they look to me like a team ready to go down.
WBA were hapless at our place and it should have been more than 4.
Don't get me wrong I know we are in it big style, but as they say 3 more points and you are 9th or 10th.
The decision on our next manager is crucial.
Gary

Author:  Captain Fantastic [ Mon Dec 15, 2008 1:08 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: Who'll go down ?

I think WBA are as good as gone, and if Blackburn's master plan to get out of trouble involves bringing back Souness as is being suggested this morning then you can add them to the drop list too.

That leaves one space to fight to avoid, and realistically there's still 10 teams could get dragged in.

I was encouraged by our performance at Pompey, but we're nowhere near out of it yet, but both Portsmouth and West Ham might be further handicapped by having to sell players in Jan, so you would fear for them if that happens....

Post subject:  Re: Who'll go down ?

Saying that, after yesterdays results, Man Citey are teetering on the edge of oblivion too

So unless they buy their way out of it in Jan, which we all know they will, then Hughes could well lose his job very soon & they fall deeper down the pack :there

But look at it this way, who in their right mind would leave a CL team & go to a bottom 4 team in the EPL :? I don't think the likes of Buffon, Villa, Torres, Messi etc will move to Citey unless they go for the money

Author:  discopants [ Sat Dec 27, 2008 1:42 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: Who'll go down ?

Well you can count Blackburn out. They have far too many good footballers to go down.
We on the other hand continue to fail to beat teams that we should beat at home therefore putting pressure on us to win away games. That's a recipe for trouble.
Gary

Post subject:  Re: Who'll go down ?

lets face it every team from hull down are still in relegation trouble boro badly need another centre midfielder (one with 2 feet and who can pass and tackle unlike arca/oneill) and a right winger, still think there are more than enough poor teams in the top flight for boro to stay up

Author:  discopants [ Sun Jan 11, 2009 2:00 pm ]
Post subject:  Re: Who'll go down ?

Don't know if Smurf still looks in here but anyway as you know we drew at Boro yesterday. I am pleased we did not lose but on the other hand annoyed we did not win.
That was a very mediocre didplay from us with no one having a good game.
However, Boro still could not beat us.
In fact, Martin Fulop will never have an easier day between the posts. Take away the goal and Boro were very very poor.
The papers are saying Downing had a great game, I must have been somewhere else then !
If anyone was wondering whether Boro are in trouble let me just confirm that they certainly are !
