I wonder how many ex-players / now managers were successful as a player before they went into management?? AND also made it big in management......... |

Excellent question. Looking at Premiership today I would say Martin O'Neill, and Sparky are probably the only two good ones at the moment and Sparky hasn't really set Man City on fire yet has he. Steve Bruce and Tony Adam probably the most decorated as players but again neither have really done anything as managers so far. I know there are several other players managing at the moment, Zola, Southgate, Moyes, Megson, Incy etc but none of these have made the grade as managers yet. On the other side Sir Alex, and Wenger may be excellent managers but they hardly hit the heights as players did they. Any others got any other views? John |

John Ditto. Many ex players are given the vote of confidence due to romantic notions of supporters rather than managerial abilities. Most boards of directors are mental and use these moves to apease gruntled fans. |

Well it'll come as no surprise but I'll nominate Peter Reid. He won the English Championship with Everton, he played in the World Cup for England but his biggest honour was managing Sunderland and he had a very good record there and at Man Citeh incidentally. He'll do a good job for another club before he's finished. Gary |
