Guys. We are getting quite a big group for our 5-a-side the last few weeks which has been frowned on by some but if we can keep up with this number then we will start playing on grass 'half size' pitch. This does cost a bit more in total but is only worth booking if we can guarantee at least 16 people. I`ll need to let Olympico know on wed morning so can we have a roll call of definite attendees ... open to all peeps reading the thread.Cheers

How much are we looking at for the big pitch?

To be honest, I was really getting into the footy but it became a victim of it's own sucess with upto 16 people squeezed on a 5 a-side pitch. Plus I felt guilty, with so many people to aim at my head shoty count was rapidly rising.

€100 for the bigger grass pitch but the guy needs to know in the morning if we want it. If we don't have enough confirmed interest then of course won't do it.

Anything more than 6-a-side is a pain but what can 'we' do, if people don't consistently turn up we need a bigger group to ensure we have enough every week, then when everyone turns up we have too many ! 3 teams on rotation seemed to work well but some grumbled about that as well.

So Simon, are you in or out ?

Hi All,

Sorry for not replying sooner. I'll be there on Wednesday with my 2 lads. Don't mind if grass or astro.

Grass does seem a bit pricey though :!:

2 teams up to 7 a side on the astro is good. Any more then 3 teams rotating every 5 mins is ok. IMHO

See you there :bounce

€70 for 60 mins on astro (we tend to be allowed to play longer) but if there is a 9pm booking ...

€100 for 90 mins for half-pitch on grass, unlikely to be another booking.

I spoke to Some of the lads at the Duck Pond on Monday. They said they would be playing.

So think it's safe to add:

Paul + Ryan

I have been laid up for the last couple of weeks with man flu and a bad back. However, things feel ok and I'm off to gym tonight. Providing there's no reaction I will be up for Wednesday.

So 15 confirmed....and maybe Simon.

That'll be 8 a side!

PLus the possibility of others.

I reckon it's time for us to step on up to the big pitch.

Only 50% of the forum members i 'PM'd' even bothered to post here or reply ...

Its a bit of a 'risk' to rely on people that haven't said they will come so Simon you gonna make up the numbers ? no pressure

There are a few others that may just turn up but they are members here and i don't have numbers to chase them up.

I'm going to have to leave it until next week. Still a bit of a twinge in my back after the gym. Popping back to Osteopath for a rub down and then hopefully all will be ok.

15 Definites though. Surely that's enough to go for half a pitch. Otherwise we'll end up with ar least 8 v 7 on the small pitch.

Post subject:  Re: 'Five' A Side - 22nd July

or 5 vs 5 vs 5 on rotation the normal pitch one of your 15 is Fletchers son who is too small really IMHO.

There are Olly and his Dad who are still maybes so if i can get them confirmed then will goto, plus the guys that haven't responded to this thread and/or PM.

Is Sean on his own, what about his lad Jay ?

Thanks to all that came down ... was nice to try the grass out but next week back onto the astro turf

pro's ... loads of room, space to run and play into, proper corners and crosses.
cons ... grass too long, wet boggy patches, uneven ground, poor lighting.

Have to say 90minutes playing and still had people running hard, general fitness levels are much higher than when we started last October :clap

I`m feeling my calves and ankles today :huff

At least it was worth trying it out. Too much chance of injury if the pitch is dodgy. Shame they don't keep it in better nick.
