I am so tired Eryn keeps getting in to our bed on my side about 1 am she is tiny but sleeps like a starfish! We have tried shouting ignoring and buying her stickers if she stays in her own bed she has a lovely room but still wont stay in it. She does go to bed full of good intentions but god love her there she is again. And in a mornin when daddy is narky i explain its cos hes tired as he works hard and isnt sleeping properly she says i know i am sorry mummy but i just need to huggle up to someone what can you say to that she is so cute Alex x

Oh Alex, she loves you both and doesn't want to be away from either of you. Really sweet.

Can't give you any advice I'm afraid, never had that problem, my eldest just never slept as he was hyperactive.

Tie her down or lock her door only kidding, get her a blanky or cuddly, something that smells of you, that way she'll feel closer to you at night

But be warned, you may never get her to let it go as she gets older

You see I never had this problem with my 2, they both slept like logs from about the age of 2 or 3

Do what I did - buy a bigger bed!

Ginger ninja used to climb up the bed between us then do the starfish and we used to balance on about 8 inches of mattress either side. Was so fed up being tired that we went to get a bigger bed. While wandering around the shops(just the 2 of us, never took him shopping - nightmare) the salesman was trying to flog us this really expensive double one, which allegedly was on special offer... Cant have it says me, its not big enough for the 3 of us. I then realised what I'd said and tried to explain very quickly about small wriggly child etc and the man said "whatever you two do in the comfort of your own home is none of my business"

We left the shop rapidly....

Have you tried lavender oil on something that she can cuddle - relaxing and make her feel at ease?

Im gonna have to think what i could do with her that she doesnt already do with me good thinkin though she just does love being with us last week was funny she went and got in with Joe and didnt realise i was up and i caught her sneaking back in to her own room like she had been there all night. She is a clever one the little rip . She does do musical beds though Becca even says ahe cant sleep when she gets in her bed So were all tired and she is happy as she has slept with someone next to her i will probably find her in the dogs bed soon

All she's looking for is something to cuddle & to be able to smell your scents, so a cuddly should cure her midnight wanders

She has blankies and teddys Piglet even give her Alex bear she tucks them all in then does one she has even got a furry hot water bottle. We already have a king size bed but me geoffy are on the portley side if not rather large

I have never had problems with Mia sleeping in her own bed but on the odd occasion that she does creep in with me, she too sleeps like a star fish and i end up hugging the edge of the bed.

Have you tried her with one of your sweaters I don't mean put her in it, just give it her to cuddle when you put her bed

Pete i will try that one tonight and see how it goes failing that i may just leave her in with geoff and ill go get in with Greco xx All 3 kids are so different i used to have to wake beca up to feed her she even fell asleep in nursery when they were playing sleeping rabbits god love her and she can sleep all day on a washing line now Joe was an absolute toad till he was 2 he never slept now he will sleep till noon age 11 I must be getting to old for all this Alex

Alex is hard, and i should say try all the things the book said but i was a sofftie and just put a z-bed at side of ours and let it go and they did just get to a stage that they wanted there own bed to be big . It stopped by the time they were 6 i just did not make a thing of it .Mind you in they all still jumped in morning till 12

Plan A
paint a big scary luminous monster on the back of her bedroom
door, when you shut her door at night she will be to terrified to get out the bed.

Plan B
If that fails and she does try to escape ! (I cant believe I said escape )
Drill a small hole through the door where the scary monsters mouth is,
When she is going to get out of bed, stand on the outside of the room
with her door closed
make monster noises through the hole
this should make the monster look more real ..
That will petrify her back into bed..

Plan C
If that should fail
The only thing I can suggest is that you and hubby hire
a couple of Frankenstein outfits and wear them to bed
on the night..
then when she pulls the sheet back to get in with you
start making groaning noises ,, that should do the trick ..

As I am sure you are aware,, I don't have any children ..lol.lol.lol..

I am sorry for you Alex as have suffered this too. My doctor shocked me when I mentioned how stressful it was as he strongly advised we lock her bedroom door!! Needless to say we just kept going until eventually she outgrew it, my OH used to get up and go and sleep in her bed just so he could get enough sleep, not a good solution but at least he did get to sleep.

I do have a joke about this though......

There was a family of balloons, Mum, Dad and Baby.

Every night baby balloon would sneak into his parents bed.

Soon he started to be too big to fit so one night he let a little air out of mummy balloon.
This worked for a while but once again he grew and so whilst his parents slept he let a liitle air out of daddy balloon.
Of course eventually this was not enough so he let some air out of himself and as he did so his father woke up.

To which his father sat up and said
"son you keep coming into our bed at night this is not acceptable but I am really sad that in doing this

you have let your mother down,

you have let me down

but most of all you have let yourself down!"

Guess what I am trying to say Alex is you will get through it even though right now it may not seem so.

I used to wait until they dropped off to sleep and carry them back, this was really cos I couldnt sleep with them in my bed but it usually worked, I know how you feel you will try anything wont you?

Seriously though you just have to persevere and everytime she falls asleep just carry her back, otherwise you will never get a decent nights sleep. My daughter really tries it quite often and really just doesn't understand why we I get to cuddle up to someone while she has to be on her own! Bless

I will try to carry her back but she always wakes up when you try to move her too clever by half that one she has been here before i think Alex x

Well, two school of thoughts here. Well many more I suppose. But having 2 kids myself neither of which slept well. I did opposing things with both.

Now, I have to admit that I am not the worlds most natural mother. OK that said ,there will be folk out there that say 'why did you have kids at all'. First time was curiosity - thought I might be good at it. Second time,- ah, caught out and knew I had not the maternal instict to stay up all night. Too worn out from the first time.
Now, I had a good teacher, my Grandmother, amongst her sayings were, children should be seen and not heard - didn't agree with this but one thing I did agree with is - Why is the tail wagging the dog?

With my first I pandered to ever whim, never let him cry, always there to comfort his ever need, whine and whatever, and guess what - didley squat. He took the p*** ever time, all the time.

Now for the second child. I learned quickly, that, bedtime was bedtime. Not matter what crap they doled out as nice little chit chat that was designed to make you feel as guilty as hell. Put into bed, read night night bye byes and door shut. Cry madam, as long as you want. 3 nights later - all over, job well done. Give in and it will come back to bite you on the butt.
Not everyones cup of tea, and not everyone will agree. But, it worked for me.

Now, in my day, a good slap never went amiss but then we live in different times. The naughty stair wasn't invented. Do I believe in pandering to them, sorry no I don't. But having tried both methods, I do know which I would choose again.

Now if ever, my kids, have kids, I just hope they don't ask me to babysit!!!!!!!!!

Tiggy, you have made me laugh out loud. I can relate to your post.

We trod on eggshells with our first. The second one got put to bed awake, light off and he just accepted it. Having watched the Dog Whisperer I think we must have been calm and assertive the second time around.

Kieran used to climb in with us, and Phil would take him back to his own bed, perch on the edge of it until he went back to sleep. then come back to our bed. It all stopped when Nathan was born and we put him in the same bedroom with Kieran (at around 6 months). We used to find Kieran in Nathan's cot cuddled up to him instead.

I have no suggestions really. All kids are different, and all parents are different. You just gotta keep on keeping on and hope she will grow out of wanting to be in your bed before she leaves home.
