Well i can now confirm dogs are not stupid, they know things that is about to happen. Do you remember me posting a post about our dog tobey barking at the wall last week. Well while i was in Italy on tue, my wife just told me tobey was barking at the wall again at 10pm tue night. Then BANG there was an earth quake that very night in the uk. Someone said on that post, when a dog barks at the wall for no reason, that it means an earth quake is about to happen, and i thought they were off there trolley, but it seems to be true in this case . I am gob smacked wow

Well in that case Mark, you're dog should be barking at the wall all day & night as there are approx 200 earthquakes in the UK per day

Maybe your dog is partly deaf & can only hear the high magnitude one's coming

There could be something in it you know - there are lots of earthquakes daily true enough, but most are so tiny as to not even register beyond an extremely localised scale - the big one this week was certainly well out of the ordinary, so it isn't impossible your dog could have "sensed" something.

Animal sensitivity to seismic events is well documented - one of the first signs of imminent volcanic eruptions is often the unnatural silence due to bird and animal life having the sense to get well out of it! :D

Knew that Geography degree would come in handy one day!

I may have born blonde but what as Geography got to do with Volcano's & Earthquakes :? Isn't that to do with locations :?

Isn't that Geology & Volcanology :?: :?:

'Traditionally, geographers have been viewed the same way as cartographers and people who study place names and numbers. Although many geographers are trained in toponymy and cartology, this is not their main preoccupation'

Did you just Google Geography??

It's such a versatile and wide-ranging discipline that I wouldn't try to encapsulate it in a forum post, but suffice to say I've studied plate tectonics, volcanos and the like in mind-numbing detail, so much so I can even remember some of it! :D

Told you I was born blonde

But I've seen so much about 'plate tectonics & volcanos' that I feel I've done a university course on it myself

I did actually add the 'google' reference as an after thought

My neice - of whom I am inordinately proud - has a PhD in Geology. She lectures all over the world.

I could ask her what the difference is if you like. I doubt whether any of us would fully understand the professional answer.

Pete, I KNOW I wouldn't understand what she was saying.

She could put it simplistically, like the Winiwatsit does. But if she spoke about it in the way she does with her learned colleagues she may as well be speaking Martian.

She is not genetically linked to me - she is Phil's sister's daughter - so she doesn't get any of her brainpower from me. DON'T SAY A WORD!

Having said that, she is not all work and no play. And she loved it in Cyprus when she came out last year. Don't want to give the impression that she is a geek.
