I'm not looking for members email addresses, what I am wanting to know is, do any members have a 'gmail' isp account

The reason I'm wondering this is because every morning & throughout the day, I get a lot of undesirable people trying to register on our fabulous forum & I've noticed alot of them have a 'gmail' address & I wanted to ban that type of email address totally but I'll be unable to if members already have 'gmail' accounts, so please if you do, then you can either pm me or jus say yes you do, no need as I said to give you're email address on the forum

I have a gmail address, Pete. Don't think it is the one I used when registering on the site though.

I think you'll find that its not quite as big as Hotmail yet but growing quickly, so it isn't a good idea to ban the 'gmail' addresses completely will have to do it on a individual basis instead

GMail is excellent and has one or two advantages over some other service providers, principally that you can access it from anywhere and it has superb spam filtering. Furthermore it can be used to filter spam from other e-mail addresses, as it will collect e-mail from those addresses; and if you use it to receive mail and your usual SMTP server to send mail, no-one need know you are using it.

Oooh Neil - please don't ban gmail. I love it. I've lost count of the failures that I've had with other networks but gmail is fantastic. I can share documents, photos, you name it - with my sister who lives mainly in London (but all over the world).

Gmail has really revolutionised the way I keep in touch with people. Much nicer interface that yahoo and hotmail and other web-based email providers.

Don't worry folk, we're not going to ban any emails, we were just looking at the option, as we are getting a lot of nasty websites who are using 'gmail' accounts to access our forum

But we've decided that checking email accounts individually is a better option at present, so no need to worry

Hi Neil

Can you not use that visual tool thingey ..... you know the one where the person has to type what they see (stops the computers getting into the site)? Takes away some of the need for a body to sit on the pc all the time.
