Hi
Welcome to the forum
Tala is a very nice villiage, the square bistro in tala is
nice .
I used to drive up to tala on a saturday, just to sit at one of the bars , get a bottle of carlsberg and read the paper outside ..
I dont have kids so cant help you on that one..
but I am sure they will have no trouble making friends
there are plenty kids around ...
What kind of shopping are you talking about ?
food, clothes, furniture ? ?

welcome again :D

Welcome on board Michele

You'll certainly notice the change in climate, moving here in August - tends to be very hot around about then.

Make sure you have air-con!

Many thanks for your replies so far. We are all suffering from the flu! However, feeling a little better now. We will come over before August, but probably only one visit as Emma our daughter is doing GCSE's and so we are rather limited on time!

However, will definitely look at the business services and we will probably look at advertising on the board when we are over in Cyprus!

The shopping I was talking about really is what is it worth bringing to Cyprus and paying to transport etc.!

Michele.
This is a topic that has been spoken about on many ocasssions.
Its not something I could help you with , as I never moved that way.
but I have heard people say that things like fridges are best bought here in cyprus, as the compressors are bigger due to this being a warmer place..
I am sure someone will come along and give an Idea ...

Michele,

Its probably safe to say, fridges & freezers should be purchased over here, as what Neil said is true, a fridge from the UK will not survive the heat over here :!:

TV's & DVD's can be brought over but make sure they're uncoded or you'll have to get them chipped. We have an Ikea here now in Nicosia, so furniture isn't a problem, but its better to buy your beds here or you may have to sleep on a blow up bed until your container turns up

Other member will be able to give you more advice but I hope I was able to help in some small way.

See you soon

Hi Michele and welcome to the forum.

Have to disagree with you Pete regarding a bed, brought one over from the UK and bought one here. Needless to say the one I bought here I hate - it has the slated bottom which lets the cold come through, plus the mattress gets dirty underdeath with the dust. This wasn't a cheap bed we bought CYP800 with two matching side tables, whereas our UK bed has the four drawers which is great for storage as there is never enough storage in the houses here and you don't feel the cold coming up from the floor. :D

Fridges and freezers - well my large chest freezer is still working (touch wood) after nearly four years here and it was two year old when I did bring it over. Fridges - I have just sold the two I brought over and they were still working fine but they weren't big enough therefore bought a new one a Miele which is enormous but great for the drinks, all the fresh veg I now have all the time in the fridge (always used to buy frozen in the UK) as you really do need a large fridge.

Washing machines are still pretty pricey here (for a decent one)and I would personally recommend a dryer as I hate the way the towels go like sandpaper after a few washes here, plus it can take a few days to dry clothes if there is a wet spell. Even in the summer I use my dryer for the towels - just giving them half an hour and they are still damp but half an hour outside and they are dry.

You can get just about everything here now but be prepared to go from shop to shop until you find what you want and I still think the choice is limited. Good example is I went looking for a small round side table for the living room - went into just about every shop in the Mesogi Road and only found one that was CYP95 and had a few chips in it therefore did not buy it so I will just do without.

Hope this helps a bit.
