Hi you helpful lot!

After major clearing out session this weekend I want to put all my old tapes onto CD to put onto our Ipod. Does anyone know if this is possible and do you know of anyone who offers this facility?
I must have got 100 cassettes which need converting.

By the way, found a good site for downloading free music/films/books which is mininova.org you first need to download bitcomet to use the downloads - again this is free.

Excellent site. Got some great downloads

Tiggy

Helen,

Why not just download the music from either the site you found or limewire on to your computer then upload onto the Ipod - will save you loads?

Also tapes never quite sound the same when they are transferred to CD as the quality isn't quite right - or so I am told by hubby Steve, who is a music expert (so to speak after 35 years in the business). Eventually we are going to put all his records on the computer, although I know he will never get rid of them, ever and storing over 2,000 LPs and EPs takes up a lot of room. Must admit though we do enjoy when he sets up one of his decks at home and go through a box or two of records (with an RAC as well of course) listening to them because we haven't heard them in ages. Always makes a nice change and brings back good memories of the "old days".

I would urge you to be very careful about using peer to peer sharing sites for stealing copyright material or one of these days someone will come knocking at your door with a large bill or a lawsuit. Various organisations monitor such downloads and your troubles may start with a denial of service attack on your IP address. You can limit the intrusion with third party software such as Peer Guardian 2 and a router with a firewall, but there will always be risks involved. The more you use the facility the greater your exposure. There is also a much increased risk of virus activity, so ensure that your AV software is kept up to date.

Copying audio tape to the PC is quite simple and there is no difference in recorded quality, provided you don't use compression - though whether you would hear the difference on an iPod is open to conjecture. One method of copying audio tape/vinyl to the PC is covered at http://www.gmayor.com/copy_vinyl_to_CDR.htm

Morning KG,

Good advice there, I stopped using these down load site years ago as I never really got any decent copies, but then that was 'Bearshare' which wasn't much good any

I still have loads of music on tape & still listen to them in the car, as I don't have CD player yet, I also have somewhere near 5000 on my PC which I downloaded from all my CD's in the house when I got given a FREE Ipod & Itunes by the company I use to work for :!:

Now the missus uses the Ipod for her 'music pillow' & I have the PC to listen to music :?

The woman in question would have been picked up by the type of trace I mentioned. Whether American companies would find it worth pursuing individuals in Cyprus, where to be honest you can find pirate copies of copyright material everywhere, is open to conjecture, but don't think they will not notice and attempt to monitor your activity.

They may in the future intimidate the service providers to limit access to such share facilities, but they have not yet done so here.

There's a lot of information on the web about the security measures you might be able to take, but at the end of the day it will still be theft of copyright material so you do so at your own risk.
