Paphos People

If you find somewhere, do let me know as i want to start going to some classes. I know it's lazy of me, but I really just want to learn how to speak Greek rather than reading and writing it.

I tend to fare better in a class scenario rather than 1-2-1. But if there are a few Paphos People who want to go then let me know and we can maybe go together!

Why not start a PaphosPeople Greek class, then if you get enough members, you could get a teacher come to you lot

The teacher that has been recommended a number of times to me is Demetris who runs classes in Kinaris Street, Paphos and at £16 a month (two one hour lessons a week) is very good value.

He teaches conversation and not grammer and the amount of people that have told me he is brilliant and they are getting to grips with the language. Sorry haven't got number but he advertises in the Grapevine and I remember seeing that the new classes start on 14th January.

Peppermint, which area are you in? I know someone in Pano Arodes who will be willing to teach me Greek - conversational Greek without too much in-depth grammar - but she says she can't really put on a class of less than 6 people.

If anyone is interested in going to Pano Arodes for lessons there is a teacher who will make learning Greek fun.

I'm based in Peyia. How far is Pano Arodes from there? I can see on the map that it's just passed Kathikas.

Did she mention how much the lessons would be.

Does anyone know the day and time for the lessons at the Latin parish?

Well if Neil is thinking of doing it after living here 10 years then I don't see why I can't have another go after only 18months

Problem I have with Greek is that it's just so damn difficult - have given it a (half-hearted ) try a couple of times and nothing seems to stick.

At least with the likes of French, Italian or Spanish a lot of the words are similar and/or already in common use, but Greek is, well, all Greek to me!

I'm with Homer Simpson on this one: "Every time I learn something new, it pushes some old stuff out of my brain."

I'm just completely mortified. I've turned in to one of those awful people who shout and gesticulate wildly to people who don't speak very much English and I'm just so very ashamed!

I've come to someone else's country to make my home and I can't converse with them beyond hello, how are you, my name is!

It's time for action! Let's get to these classes, we can do it!

Mate, it harder to learn Greek if you have to learn how to read & write but the class Jackie is on about is speaking only, so even you & me should be able to pick that up

Phil is definitely up for it, seeing as how he is surrounded by Cypriots. So we have 6. I think she will take more, but 6 was the minimum.

If you come up the back of Pegia to the Polis Road, and go past the Kathikas turnings on your right, you will come to a signpost for Arodes, Ineia and Droushia. Turn left there and you are in Pano Arodes. Not that far, really. Much nearer than it is for me to get to the Latin Parish Hall. And some of us work so can't go during the day, which is when the LPH put the classes on so I am told.

The cost is €8.50 per lesson (around £5 old money). I will ask when she intends to put them on and see if they suit everyone.

Watch this space - I am seeing her on Friday at a housewarming party. And no. You can't all come, too!
