Really only for folks in uk or outside of Cyprus.Has anyone been watching this program on style tv.All about folk who are moving abroad and trying different ways of making living.

There are some really entrepreneurs ot there.I am finding it interesting as some leave on a shoe string.

Yeah Frank, now that I am for the time being a man of leisure, I've been watching it. Have to say a lot of Brits who go over there ( Spain) clearly do not have enough money to survive. Their business plans are ridiculous, their ideas of what their money will buy are clearly misinformed and nearly all of them end in failure !
Hey I love a happy ending but most of these folk are doomed to failure.
They only have enough to survive for say 3 months and then they are totally dependant on their new business venture succeeding. That's a business that they have put no forward thought into.
Wish I had a twenty pound note for every time one of them has said " It has to succeed"
Good entertainment though ! :D
Gary

Gary, I have come across people who have moved to Cyprus with much the same ideals. No real plan B. Some who I have spoken with then bemoan their fate, but put the blame on Cyprus, the Cypriots and anyone but themselves. They go back to the UK full of bitterness and continue to rip Cyprus and it's people to pieces.

There is nowt so queer as folk.

I'm not sure people who move over to Cyprus are adverturers more like looking for a better way of life

These days it more like self survival so it's always good to have a 'Plan B, C, D & E' :D :D

If you are single fine and you have time on your hands, but to come over without thought of education for children etc then you are asking to go flat on your face. There are success stories but not many i would have thought. As they say in haste repent in leisure.

I would say to everyone give it a go.I lived denmark for 3 years and although i liked it, i never really settled there so resturned.I am lucky as i have travelled a lot so maybe have a feel if i would settle now.You can repent in leisure if you have money but it does help if you have some.

My post is about the program where you see folk move purely for the sun with no plans and then panick as nothing been thought through. They take out big loans to start a busines with no business plans in place. They most certainly will repent in leisure for few years when those loans have to be paid off  Especially if they return to uk with debts and busines never worked out.

I am sure everyone here who moves has plans in place as you can see this by posts ie schooling etc.

Yeah Julie/Geoff go for it and I hope you every success. If you want to give living in another country a try then you should, but at least try to ensure you have enough dosh to live on and have a realistic plan before doing it.
That's not advice to you by the way, just everyone who tries it
Gary
PS I can't really dish out advice as I have yet to do it myself.

All I mean by plan B is that the capital off the sale of our house was put away safely so that we didn't eat into it and would have something to fall back on if our dream didn't work out. We hadn't actually thought about whether we would head back to the UK or look further afield. Plan B isn't about being "safe", it is about taking a bit of responsibility for your actions. The adventure is still all there.

If it doesn't work out at least we won't be relying on the welfare state to bail us out by going back to the UK with our tails between our legs and caps in hand, which is what many people do.
