As you say, members signing in now will see not much difference :? :?

As Cilla Black would say, 'the choice is theirs :?: '

As the original technophobe you would think I might be have problems with the change of forum format. Well, I can't see what all the fuss is about. It may have more functions (I refuse to use that "functionality" jargon - that word gets up my nose much more than the change of forum format  ) but I can do the things I did with the old forum format quite easily with the new format. In time I will discover how to use the other features if I want to.

At the end of the day all I want is to be able to ask a question, put my view and interact with other members.

Either format will do for me, Pete. I did say that there should be a third choice of vote - no preference - but as there isn't I have gone for the positive vote.

I can't be ar*ed to expend precious energy on feeling negative about something that isn't that important to me in the greater scheme of things.

Hi Frank. I have just noticed that it says Site Moderator, instead of moderator. I didn't notice the Social Secretary has gone.

I don't care what title I get, or whether I get one at all. I have never been one to feel important because of a job title. It doesn't make you do the job any better does it?

As long as I don't get given an offensive title Pete can call me what he likes. Member would do.

Hi Geoff,

Welcome back mate, did you have a good time :D

To answer your question, neither

The Poll asks if you want the new style or the old style, it was raised before we knew that 'Subsilver2' looked like the old forum & was made the default style

But if you like Prosilver, choose Option 1 :!:
But if you like Subsilver2, choose Option 2 :!:

Hi Verity,

A 'Site Moderator' is a Global Moderator, which basically mean you have permissions over a wider range of forums, unlike 'moderator' which is only over the specified forum :? You also have extra functions available to you as a 'Site Mod' which in time you'll find out about, as I don't want to babble on too much about with you being a technophobe

I don't think I can be as much of a technophobe as I think I am Pete. I haven't got my knickers in a knot over any of the minor differences I have come across. There seem to be many others who are less computer literate than me, judging by the discussions this new format has engendered.

I am now feeling quite confident in my abilities. But don't expect miracles, mind!

Well you now have 2 Control Panels, 1 is your own 'User Control Panel' which is top right, the 2nd is the 'Moderator Control Panel' which should be about an inch below on the right :D

You can use that to control what members are allowed to do, to a point :D :D

Enjoy

Oh yeah. I will have a look at that when my internet connection is less fragile.

I keep freezing - not me, but the page. When I have a better connection I will play.

Well the vote's are in & you, our members have chosen which style you prefer :|

So as of Monday, we will change the default style back to the 'classic' as requested :!:

If after the change over, you decide you don't want the 'Classic' style, you will still be able to change your profile settings to one of the following:

'Classic' (Default)
'Prosilver'
'Subsilver2'
'Avalon'

Please feel free to contact me with any queries or questions on this matter :D

So basically, are you saying that the 'new' forum, is merely a setting you can alter in your control panel??

Or am I misunderstanding you?

Hi JB,

The style of the forum can be changed in your control panel, under the 'board preferences' header, you currently have 3 style but members have voted that they want the 'old style' as default, which we will upload on Monday :!:

You can still use the current style (Subsilver2) after the change over but you'll need to change this in your User Control Panel :!:

JB,

I think I did answer your question, its the style of the forum which will change :!:

If this isn't the answer you're looking for, you need to expand on what you mean by your question :?

My understanding is that both (or all) board styles old and new are available in 'board preference' so everyone can choose whichever they like INCLUDING the 'old style'.

Personally I'm going with the Prosilver because I find it more user friendly and refreshing from other boards which remain the same old style. JMO, each and everyone to their own :D :D

A couple of weeks ago (?) the whole format of the forum changed.

It went from looking the same as Cyprus Living (for example) to something completely different.

I managed to change it (in control panel) to something the same colour as before but with a slightly different appearance.

Now ... I assumed (in these brackets I broke down the word assume into three syllables, but the 'swear box' changed it to butt-u-me  ) that this change was because you had changed the board's 'service provider' (sorry, I don't know the correct term)

What I'm trying to ask is, is it the same 'provider' but with just a different look, or is it a completely different thing??

Hope I'm making more sense now!

I am confused too. Are we going back to the old style board - such as the one CL use - or are we sticking with this new format?

Personally I will work with whichever. However I think the post by Malsue is relevant as others may feel that they now prefer the new style, but would not have gone back to change their vote. So the results are really not truly representative of the membership.

The poll went up too soon and caught the initial knee jerk reaction that accompanies any change that is sprung upon people.

Who would want to be an administrator?

Hi folks,

I will try to clear up some of the confusion that is being caused by what is/has been happening over the past 2-3 weeks :D In the process I may confuse you even more but I'll try to get it across as simply as possible (so has not to confuse myself also)

Almost 3 weeks ago, we had to change 'Host' company due to the awful downtime we were gettings, so now that is sorted & we haven't had any real downtime since :D :D

Last Saturday, we upgraded our forum to the new phpbb3 which isn't in use anywhere else in Cyprus as far as we are aware & with it came all the new functions & features, including 3 new styles: Prosilver, Subsilver2 & Avalon :!:

Due to the new forum, we decided to use a new style Prosilver as the default setting & that's when the Poll went up to ask members if they preferred the old or new style :? this confused a lot of you & you voted for the old right away but due to the amount of complaints I received, I spoke with Neil & we changed the styling to 'Subsilver2' which is a very close match to phpbb2 'Classic' & a lot of you decided you liked it & are now getting use to it :D

Now the vote ending yesterday & by a 32/33 majority, the vote was against the new style 'Prosilver' so Martin has created what we had with the old forum a 'Classic' version which will go live tomorrow hopefully, we won't be going back to the old forum itself but we will give you the old look as you voted for :o

But as said before, in your 'User Control Panel' you will be able to change that 'Classic' default look into any of the new style under the board preferences as you did before :D :D

I'm sorry for all the confusion caused & hope that after tomorrow, we wont have anymore, well not for a long time anyway :!: I hope this has cleared up some of your questions but if not, please let me know & I'll do what I can to answer them :D

In 'non computer speak' upgraded means change summat for the better, but IME, in computerspeak, it *never* means that!

;-)

I also note that you sat that you "changed host company". Now, IMHO, that IS an upgrade. Not a 'page unavailable' since.

:congrats

So I was on the right track as above Pete? :?

Please tell me I'm not still confused because I think it's my age

I have a question though......... when 'quoting' in Prosilver the quote box starts with large 'Open Quote' marks (like them, make the quote stand out) but the box doesn't have any 'Closing Quote' marks which, IMHO, looks odd :)

Is this how it is set or could they be put in? I know it's a little thing but sometimes finishing (pardon the pun) touches are important 8)

Hi Helen,

Yes you were right on track,, so it's not your age

As for your questions, you've actually confused me as I don't use 'Proseilver' myself, so I don't understand what it is your trying to explain :?

I've had Jackie try to explain it too me but I'll need to try it out for myself in 'Prosilver' to see what you're asking, so I'll let you know in a wee while :D

Well this is me in 'Prosilver' so if this goes as you've suggested, then it must be the way its setup :?

Now having checked this out, I see what you mean but what its doing is quoting the person as in "Pete wrote: instead of adding quotes before & after the statement :? This is done by boxing in the entire statement instead :D

Does this make any sense :?

Yes Pete, what you said makes perfect sense and it's really not a big issue. :D

It's just that years of training and working in areas where spelling and grammer were of prime importance I can't help noticing when something's not quite right. If the setup is just that "setup" so be it, but strictly speaking quotes should be used ONLY around the section of text being quoted verbatim and must be ended with 'closing quotes'.

Goodness me, do I sound like a school teacher or some sort of anorak

David's working nights and I'm bored, can you tell???????

I don't mean I'm right all the time, I'm not that arrogant  but these days with mobiles and "txt spk" and chatroom abbreviations (IMHO!!!!!!) the language we use has altered and degraded with the communication explosion the internet affords us.......... However, it makes communication with the masses more available and user friendly than ever. That's progress, I don't knock it!

There I go again........... I'll get my coat >>>>>>>>>>>>>>> trips backend over elbow as leaving the room  That'll teach me, didn't spill a drop though :P :P

PS: I stick by my vote, I like Prosilver!!!!!

Am I right in thinking it's the same as he default 'silver' (sorry, can't remember which one it's called  ) but just a different colour????

Or, is there something else?

Hi JB,

Yeah pretty much the same as 'Subesilver2' which was the default style, except the text is slighly bigger I think, for all us semi-blind people :D :D
