Please see below :-

Hi All,
I checked with Norton Anti-Virus, and they are gearing up for this virus!
I checked snopes.com, and it is for real!!
Get this E-mail message sent around to your contacts ASAP.

PLEASE FORWARD THIS WARNING AMONG FRIENDS, FAMILY AND CONTACTS!

You should be alert during the next few days. Do not open any message with an attachment entitled "You have received a POSTCARD from a family
member," regardless of who sent it to you. It is a virus which opens A POSTCARD IMAGE, which 'burns' the whole hard disc C of your computer.
This virus will be received from someone who has your e-mail address in his/her contact list. This is the reason why you need to send this e-mail to all your contacts. It is better to receive this message 25 times than to receive the virus and open it.

If you receive a mail called" POSTCARD," even though sent to you by a friend, do not open it! Shut down your computer immediately.

This is the worst virus announced by CNN. It has been classified by Microsoft as the most destructive virus ever. This virus was discovered
by McAfee yesterday, and there is no repair yet for this kind of virus.
This virus simply destroys the Zero Sector of the Hard Disc, where the vital information is kept.

COPY THIS E-MAIL, AND SEND IT TO YOUR FRIENDS. REMEMBER: IF YOU SEND IT TO THEM, YOU WILL BENEFIT ALL OF US.

I checked this on snopes too. It is real so I thought it may be useful to be aware of.

Looks like this might actually be a hoax version of an earlier non-hoax virus:

http://urbanlegends.about.com/library/b ... _virus.htm

Quote:
IMPORTANT NOTE: Some versions of this hoax claim the information was "verified" on Snopes.com. This is NOT true. There is verification on Snopes.com of a different e-card virus threat with a similar name.

It makes you wonder doesn't it - surely these people have something better to do with their time??

In that case I don't ever stand a chance of getting anything right, Martin.

So if you get an email saying you have a postcard from a schoolfriend it is NOT a hoax. But if you just get one saying you have a postcard it IS a hoax.

Confused? You will be.

Just don't open any emails from anyone anymore.

Well, the current state of play is:

"POSTCARD" = hoax

"You've received a postcard from a family member" = not a hoax

But now of course you just know some hoaxer is going to create a genuine hoax out of the non-hoax, thereby hoaxing all of those who thought they had spotted the hoax and cleverly avoided being hoaxed!

Has anyone ever received a virus warning (written in capitals saying also to 'send this to everyone in you address book') that is actually true?

:?:

Not unless it contains a virus JB

If I received an email saying 'You have a postcard from a family member' I'd know it was a hoax, as non eof my family know how to send emails

Best way around this sort of thing is not to send mass emails to anyone, that way you won't get any spam emails containing viruses
