hi all, went for a walk today at rico,s beach, walking at edge of tarmac on beach side when hit from behind by a car overtaking at speed, heavily bruising my arm, i called him a rascal as you do , he turned round came back and demanded 50euro for his mirror, when i told him to go forth and multiply, the other one got out of the back seat and repeated the demand, we think it is a scam, very scary, did not get reg, just wanted to get out of there which we did thanks to a very nice english couple in a 4x4 took us to our car, we saw the offending car and another cruising up and down looking for us, just a warning anything goes now, i think they may be tourist prevention officers, regards bill, ps we did not pay them.

That's disgusting Bill. Have you informed the police? Or maybe better still, write to the Cyprus Mail/Weekly. Or the tourist board. It doesn't say much for the image of Cyprus as the Island of Love, does it.

thanks for that verity, no didn,t call police because no reg no to give them, if it is a scam it makes you wonder about the tourist problem, but yes when my wife and i get over the shock, i will contact cyprus mail etc, got ice on it for now should be ok cheers bill.

Firstly glad to hear you and your wife are OK. This isnt good thou makes you wonder if Cyprus is on a slippery slope or just catching up with the rest of the world.

Just 4yrs ago you would never of heard about anything like this, how things can change in a short time.

hi all thanks a lot for your replies, can still see their faces, cold and callous. instead of apologising he strolled towards me and said do you have a problem, i think they were both spaced out on something, been warned by two cyp friends not to go there weekends or public holidays, because of local nutters, wont be going back anyway, yes maureen it was my drinking arm, and just about to test it out now . regards bill.

Can I ask where this area is ? Quite worrying to be advised not to visit it at weekends etc.

I am new to Cyprus, having just bought an apartment in Paphos and looking forward to regular visits with the wife.

hi willis, thanks for your reply, it is down past all the new hotels towards geroskipo, its quite nice reilly, but locals use it at weekends and holidays, also quad bikes as well sometimes to annoy you , but please dont let it put you off, there is far more good than bad still, for as scary as it was you cant let a few ar..ols spoil it for everyone, if i ever see him again on his own he will be the scared one, regards bill.
