I was 50 in November :eek and did the usuall had family and friends. We had a brilliant time but my friends didn't turn up in green pvc coats with white socks and a haversack with either their favourite band painted on it or their boyfriends names!

We now get together with turkey necks, sagging everything and coloured hair!

Your Grandparents were always old  but we dont get old . . . do we? :manic

Oh! Well at least I have David and the children . . . and our darling baby Isobelle of course

I am forty-ten next month and I am glad that I shared most of those years with my Phil. I see so many broken marriages, marriages marred by domestic violence, alcohol abuse, infidelity, and I look back over the years of my life and I know I am blessed.

We all have to get old, but at least I am not looking back with regret and wondering what I could have done differently with all those years. I would take the depression out of them if I could, but then I wouldn't be the person I am today.

I wish things didn't sag so much, and that hair didn't turn grey so that I have to keep colouring it. But as long as we are healthy and can enjoy life those years can keep rolling in. I am still making new friends and having new experiences.

At least if I have to look in the mirror age makes the eyesight weaker, so if I stand back a bit the lines don't look so pronounced.

I'll be 49 this year although in my head I still think I'm about 25. Trouble is my body keeps on reminding me that I'm not  .........

I've always been short sighted but now I need reading glasses as well
I can't do hangovers or very late nights any more
I have aches and pains in places I didn't even think about 5 years ago ......
and worst of all I'm suffering from what my mother lovingly calls 'middle aged spread' which means it is far easier to gain a few pounds than it is to lose them

But on the plus side I have more confidence than I had when I was younger. I've had 2 failed marriages but wouldn't have had my wonderful son and daughter if I hadn't married husband number 2. I'm now with Dave who is my complete and utter soul mate and the person I've been searching for my whole life and best of all a new life in Cyprus to look forward to in a few years time.

So on balance I don't mind the fact that I'm hurtling towards the big 50 - in fact I'm quite looking forward to it :D

I know what you mean about feeling 25 but the body isn't responding Julie

I've been nursing a bad back for the last 24 weeks and have been told that if I don't have a return to work date by next Thursday they will reluctantly have to let me go  Today I have woken up with David's man flu and can't stop sneezing  so all in all i'm not having the best time of it.

Still, the move to Cyprus later in the year keeps me going :celebrate

Jackie :D

I was always told that I resembled my father more than my mother, soooo when I look in the mirror these days I see... my FATHER! :eek

Well apparantly he was handsome in his youth, and my son looks like me, so I'm told, so it can't be too bad can it...........?

Pam

The even sadder thing is that my mother lived until 102 years old so it says alot about what age I must look like. Still if the genes are hereditary, i wont mind having another 40 years to live!!

I am wasting my typing fingers telling you this Alex because you won't believe me, but you look amazing. You are not only a good looking bird (trying to "speak" Liverpudlian so it will get through to you  ) but you have good skin, lovely straight teeth, your hairstyle suits you, your eyes light up when you laugh and you are full of fun. Beauty is not just one of these things, it is a combination, and it also shines from the inside out.

Stop putting yourself down, look at the positives in yourself, then you will find it is easier to improve the bits you don't like. You're gorgeous and have youth on your side. What you see as fat, others see as voluptuousness which can be incredibly sexy.

You can pay me later.

Polite! Me??

Don't think so. I try not to be rude, but I don't beat about the bush. I tell it like it is.

Obviously I have a sense of humour that some find hard to swallow.

Plus the advent of years have made me realise that I don't have to please anyone but myself - which is a good reason to celebrate getting older. Which is what this thread was about before I turned it into the Barratsbird Appreciation Topic.
