Early days yet, but preferred the look of the old one. BUT, if this is more reliable, then suppose that's better.

The font is too small here IMHO

Looks like a vote of 60/40 against so far

A few moments ago, I too had to log on before I could access the Day2Day Forum.

This afternoon, all the avatars were on the RH side of the screen, but tonight (because I logged on?) the avatars have moved back over to the left. Beginning to like the presentation more now though, in subsilver 2; though I still think the Day2Day Forum page is nowhere near as easy to scan as the previous. Lloyd

Its nice to know that you're beginning to see the differences between the old & new :D It will take time to see that this forum style is better after using the older versions for so long but once you see what you're able to do, you'll understand why we thought the change would be worth it :D :D

Depending on what Style you chose, depends where your avatars are, left or right, you user cotrol panel give you better functionality & we have a far superior security, as no one is allowed onto the members list until they are activated by myself, so no chance of inappropiate websites appearing :o :o

Also, the site is user firendly toward children too, so even better for those with children :D :D

I'm the same as everyone else, I'm still learning how to use the functions on here plus have 2 other control panels to get use too, so all I ask is if you have a problem, just let me know ok :D :D

Pete,

Just one teeny weeny critisism:

When you preview a post before submitting it, it is only on screen for two or three seconds.

Would it be possible for you to extend the preview time please?

Thank you, :D

Pam 8)

Hi Pam,

Sorry for delay in my reply, I think I've worked it out

What happens is, when you click preview, it show your post & then 3 seconds later, it reverts back to your post :? well it doesn't really, it just drops to where you were writing, your preview is still just above you post-page, so you can just scroll up to it :D :D

I think that solves that problem I hope :( :( if not, please let me know yeah :D :D

I didn't think to scroll up the page to see the preview!

Thanks for that Pete.

You're sounding like a politician ............. "although the majority don't like it, I'm sure you'll get used to it" :?: :?:

Logically, one reads from left to right.

In the old style, the posters details were on the left, so you scanned them on the way to reading the message.

The default here is on the right, so most (?) of the folks who can't figure out how to change it will be reading backwards forever.

The jury's still out here. :?

OK, been messing a bit more now .............

Go to 'user control panel' - it will probably be at the top of the page somewhere

Go to 'board preferences' and then in 'my board style', you can choose Green or Subsilver2. These look a little like the 'old style' board, but there's no www button or anywhere to show my web address.

The third option is Prosilver, which puts all the info about the poster on the right (which is what I was ranting about before) but it does show my web address, albeit in a rather strange picture of a globe - well, I think that's what it's supposed to be

Also, in my profile, it looks like my e mail address is wrong, but I can't find a way of changing it :?

Rant over

I had to log in before I could access the Forum just now:

The board requires you to be registered and logged in to view this forum.

Why?

The new forum's OK (in subsilver2 mode), but I'm not voting because I'm not particularly swayed one way or the other (and the poll doesn't have a choice for that).

Still don't have a link in each post giving you a shortcut to the post (so you can easily refer others to it); have to (eg.) use the 'quote' button and edit the URL it throws up in the address bar (not very user friendly).

Admins - Thanks for trying.

Well, I'm not going to lie to you... I love this forum style. I find it really quite modern and gives me, the user, a whole range of functions I didn't have before.

I like the look of it, fresh and dynamic.

I'd recommend that everyone gives the new style at least a week of trying it out and using the tools available and then voting for the one you prefer.

Just like new shoes, it may be a bit uncomfortable at first (change sometimes is) but once you've worn it in, you'll love it! :D

I'm not exactly sure what it is you're looking for Mike, is it the link to the exact post in a topic, as was mentioned in the Old style forum :?

If so, then if you hover your cursor over your 'quote' button & in the staus bar at the bottom you'l see the following information: posting.php?mode=quote&f=2&p=19613

The numbers at the end are the 'post number' that directs you striaght to the post you're after, eveything else is the same :D

I hope this helps in someway as I don't think phpbb.com have come up witha direct link to individual post just yet but I will check it out further to see if there is an easier way :D :D

I was feeling a little unsure this morning so switched back to subsilver2 but it already feels strangely unfamiliar although it is like so many other forums on the web. So back to pro silver I am (it is a woman's perogative to change her mind you know  ).

My only criticism of the new style is the 'posters' on the right not left, as we naturally read from let to right and I like to know who I'm reading BEFORE I continue.

However, just found another feature I like. When writing your reply if you scroll down to read the other posts (which my bad memory requires all the time) there is a button top right to 'expand view' to the size of the actual forum. Excellent! 8)

One extra thing though Pete, is there a way we can choose a default colour or do we have to click on 'font colour' every time we post..... it would be easier just to set it but I can't see a way to do this?
:)

Hi Helen,

So you prefer the Prosilver to Subsilver :o that's why your avatar is on the right instead of left, as in subsilver :D :D

As for defualt colour you can change the colour to what ever you want at anytimeyou choose but I think it should be defualting to black tho :? well mine does anyway :D

yes it does default back, I just wondered if it was a preference you could set somewhere, no worries :D
I realise the prosilver puts the poster on the right but I still prefer it at the moment to subsilver2. Looks like your poll is leaning the other way! :(

Yeah the Poll seems to favour the other but I think thats due to some member voting right away & not knowing they can re-vote if they so choose to you see :(

Well we still have all week to convience them other wise & some members haven't voted just yet & are giving themsleves time to have a look round before voting, which is very sensible :D :D

Another glitch I've come across , if I go from topic index to read postings you cannot get back to index by using the return button on the window task bar , I get a page expired notice .

:?: :?: :?: :?:

Advice please . Thanks .

You still seem to have those 'rose tinted specs' on

Why have two profiles that are very different, but have a similar name (prosilver and subsilver)
Why is the default profile the one that nobody likes?
These are probably nowt to do with you are they?

When I hover over 'quote' it doesn't do what you said - I use firefox, dunno if that's different??

Where's my www link?

How can I alter my e mail address?

You keep on about the 'extra functionality' but you haven't said what there is apart from different font colour, which IMHO just makes things harder to read (bah humbug  )

That's all for now.

Typical , as soon as I mention it it stops doing it , all working okay again , thanks anyway Pete , I'm still trying to decide how I'm going to do my final set up , but so far I like the new style , it takes a while to learn all the new bits and bobs , but I'll get there . :D

J B mate,

As far as I was aware, the 'Subsilver2' is the default style now & that's the one most members are changing over too :D

As for the names of styles, you'll need to speak to the company that own phpbb3 mate, as we have no say in what they call their styles, themes or imagesets

By your question I can tell you've not really bothered to look at your 'User Control Panel' before raising this the question about functionality, as you would have seen that there is a load of different things you can do, in fact, you can even check out the FAQ's at the top right of this screen to see them or read some of the posts in this topic, as other members have listed some other functions you can do but as I'm in a good mood, here's a short list of some more functions just for you mate:

Send out PM's to multiple members
Add friends & foe's
Subscribe to topics
Bookmark posts
Manage Drafts & Attachments
Add your Birthday
Change your style to 1 of 3 (for now, more will be added later)
Change font colours as you type
Add up to 5 personal folders in your mailbox (100 each)
Organize your mail & create rules for mailing lists
Plus other things that have changed onthe forums itself like:
Being able to see a pm while answering it
Seeing more Smilies
Added security to stop websites being seen before been made active (as was pointed out on the old site)

We're still looking into why www links are not being shown as we are other teething problems :!:

Maybe you don't have a status bar on firefox but as I don't use it, I can't give you an explantion for that :!:

As for altering your email address, you couldn't do that on the old forum either, you need to contact me & I'll change it for you, same as your user name :D

So if that isn't enough to whet your appitite, I don't know what will

Hi Pete

I looked long and hard in the control panel. That's where I found the correct silver preference!

I must admit to not noticing any of the items that you have listed, probably coz they aren't of relevance to me. so my appetite is not wetted, sorry
I already know when my birthday is  and I'm certainly not gonna advertise it on a public forum in these days of 'identity fraud'

My correct e mail address ends with @onetel.com whereas in my profile I must have mistyped @jonetel.com
If you could change this I would appreciate it, although I'm sure I've had messages from PP in the past so maybe there are two databases????

Keep up the good work.

J B,

Your email address has been updated as requested :D

I don't think 'identity fraud' is going to be a problem on our forum mate but it is your choice to add your birthday or not :D

I'm sorry that the functionality on our new forum isn't whetting your appetite any mate, but I'd hate to think what the old forum did for you then, probably not a lot

Since this forum type has only been around since mid Feb, we're bound to have a few teething problems & quite a few headache's trying to get it into shape but I for one love it, I just hope more of you start to over the coming weeks :(

Pete,

Yes - I know about the hovering business - I made the original post explaining it
(viewtopic.php?f=19&t=505)

Here's a forum that does give direct links to each posting, and I use such links a lot:
http://www.sharesforum.co.uk/
The forum works very similarly to you one, though the footnote reads:
"Powered By IP.Board 2.3.1 © 2008 IPS, Inc. "
You may not be able to see how it looks without being registered, however.

Don't worry about it; it's obviously not a biggie for most folks.

Cheers, Mike

Well, I quite like the plain text of usenet, but that seems to be a dying format now, inhabited mainly by hardened enthusiasts and trolls!

Forums are a means of communication and exchange of ideas for me.

The rubbish I spout doesn't sound any better whatever the coloured text.

It IS available in both the Subsilver2 and prosilver formats.

On subsilver the individual posting address is on the top right of the posting. The page icon infront of the text "Posted: Sun Mar 16, 2008 1:30 pm" and on the prosilver format it is show on the left hand side on the Title of each post.

If you 'right-click' on either of these and copy the link you can then post it into your message
eg

viewtopic.php?p=19711#p19711

Hi
Given this new forum a bit of a go and had a bad day y'day as could not get logged in. I think that was my mistake. I like the avatars being on the left so have changed setting and now really getting to grips with it.
I am a basic user and a lot of the functionality goes over my head but I am still enjoying it. Whichever way the forum goes I will still be here and I am learning so much and having so much fun.

I take it you mean that Neil could be my uncle, might just see a touch of resemblence there, but will have to get a few years on me yet, I'm only 44 :!:
Brian

HERE !! .. easy tiger ,.... am only 46 .. but I do work 24/7

Couldn't resist it Neil, it wasn't me honest, I was provoked

I'm sure I read on a recent post that it was your birthday a couple of weeks ago, never mind we all have to have them once a year :)

Welcome Greta,

Glad to have you on board & I hope our new style forum hasn't put you off posting, as you can change your style back to 'subsilver2' in your user control panel if you so choose :D

Well after a couple of days testing and tweeking between the two styles I have finally settled on the Prosilver format .

One main reason is the ability to boost the font size , I can't see this option on the other style , a larger font is much easier for my failing eyes to cope with . :)

It did'nt take long to get used to seeing the info on the right of the post and as the posters name is at the top left anyway for me it's not a problem .

Have not tried all available options yet , but I like the new look. Others obviously differ , but thats what makes us individuals . :)

I was wondering how long it would take you to come back with that

I'm not campaigning mate, I'm just making sure that the end vote is in line with people's feelings, not snap judgements  :!:

Which it would have been if the Poll had been posted next week instead of right away

So unless you're against freedom of speech & a proper democratic system, members are allowed to change their snap judgements after time, same as are those who don't like it anymore :D :D

the default is set on subsilver now anyway. so people
will be mislead in there votes, as they will think that subsilver is the new style.
its easy to fined out how people think by checking who is using what in the control panel..
90% of those that have logged on since the change , have reverted back to subsilver.. that is proof in itself that the old style was and still is the most favoured
