Green Monday this year falls on 10th March 2008.

This date marks the beginning of Lent.
During Lent, meat and dairy products are forbidden.

The first Monday of Lent (50 days before Greek Orthodox Easter) is a Bank Holiday in Cyprus and Green Monday, or Clean Monday, as it is sometimes known, is a day when families and friends gather for an outdoor vegetarian meal of bread, vegetables and olives.
I believe kalamari is acceptable also.

The other BIG thing on this day is the kite-flying..............

In Paphos, the kite-flying takes place down by the lighthouse, but we normally go out to St. Georges.

* I've asked the same question for a number of years to both Cypriots & ex-pats...............

Why are kites flown on Green Monday???

Never had an answer that makes sense yet!!

Can anybody help with this one?? :?

Can't answer you JGG, but I am glad you put this post up. This confirms that Good Friday this year is 25th April in Cyprus. Am I correct?

It is a lot later than the UK Easter which shows Good Friday as 21st March.
