What are these charges for, on Cyprus Airways online booking. Service Fees: Prices quoted are subject to additional Service Fee >> Flights ex Cyprus to Middle East & Greece : EUR €17.00 per ticket, Rest of Europe & Gulf : EUR €34.00 per ticket, Flights ex UK to any destination: GBP 5.00 per ticket Taxes(excluding the Service fee) will always be displayed to you in the final screen prior to purchase, but may not be displayed during the intermediate steps. I telephoned Cyprus Airways who said “we have charged them for the last 2 years”, but when asked what the charges were for Cyprus Airways ended the call! I booked the same flights with Ebooker.com at the same price as Cyprus Airways WITHOUT the 34 euro service fee! |

Welcome Dr Keo, Good to have you on board, maybe those charges are for landing fee's which Cyprus Airways have to pay extra with it being a Cypriot company, if you don't get them by going with Ebooker, it must be something extra that Cyprus Airways pays & passes it onto the passengers Maybe other member will be able to give you a better answer |

Those prices look very similar to the fees charged by travel agents for making a flight reservation with scheduled airlines. Agents used to receive commission on flight bookings but this was stopped a while ago. Since then, most agents charge what they call a "service fee" as a way around not receiving any commission. The agent who told me about it charges a different fee amount depending on distances ie Europe or further. Why an airline should be charging these seems a bit odd as usually it's broken down to show the applicable taxes. Looks like CY are now deciding to charge their own reservation or service fees too. I think I too would consider looking at Kayak, eBooker and Expedia for future to see what prices they can come up with in comparison to booking directly online with CY themselves, which all in all - is a bit of a joke, to say the least! |

I booked a flight with Cyprus Airways for July and was given the option of paying in Euros or Sterling. I chose Sterling as it worked out cheaper. After accepting my booking and receiving and email confirming it, the following day I received an email from CA to say that I had to pay in Euros or my flight would be cancelled. I phoned them up and said I was given the option but was told that I had to pay in the currency of the country I was in. Although I could get someone from the U.K. to book my flight for me. Anyway to cut a long story short, apparently it had been a mistake on their web site that gave me the option to pay in either currency, which has since been altered and I had to pay in Euros. Anyway after further 'discussion' they agreed to accept the price I had paid. |
