Not sure if this should go in the food section? but a new deli has just opened just over the road (near Paws charity shop in Chlorakas) and i am going to put some serious weight on.. Its called Chesters and does pork pies/real ham etc/proper coleslaw. anyway they seem lovely women working there and the food was fab and cheaper than i expected. lisa |

I love pies of all kinds, although corned beef and potato is a particular favourite! Back in the UK I used to love getting big slices of Ploughman's Pie from Morrisons - had pork (with plenty jelly, have to agree with Neil on that one!) cheese and pickle in it - bloomin marvellous! p.s. apologies about the piglet - I shall immediately refrain and desist from further useage!! OK, that was the last one, promise! |

hahah no, Im using my own fair hands Alex, I'd forgotten about the pie machine.. will go look for it now. I may even try and perfect my crumble recipe this afternoon, wasnt happy with the other nights effort. Im better at savoury stuff than sweet things. Speaking of which, better go check my pies, dont want them having a crust thats like Norris's shell - Norris is one of Alexs tortoises by the way! x |

Coming from Paphos Neil there are two roads past the garage for Chlorakas - by Steptoes?. Take the left road and its on the right hand side past Curves gym etc. As Lisa said not far from Charity shop. If you get as far as the Bank of Cyprus you've passed it.. Also on that road are G and P, Outfit,Heals bar so Ive given you lots of clues. Directions and map reading are not one of my talents.... x |

This is so unfair as I'm not allowed too much pastry due to my IBS & you lot are making my mouth water with all this talk of pork pies, pasties etc I use to love those mini pork pie, especially the one with cheese & pickle inside with the meat & gelatine (btw its not jelly) Egg Pork pie are made when the meat is formed around the egg in those pork pies, as its reconstituted meat mixed with gelatine, encrusted with pastry.. mmmmmm Sorry if I've put anyone off eating them now but being an ex-butcher, I've seen all these things made |

Captain Fantastic wrote: Ooh, I love a good pork pie! Do they have the ones with an egg in the middle too? If they don't, you can get loaf sized pork pies with eggs from Country Kitchen in Zakaki near Limassol (baked to order). They were CY£8 before the currency change and have more meat than jelly
Country Kitchen still does the best steak and kidney (or steak alone) pies I have ever bought anywhere - and they freeze well so you can buy in bulk to cut down on the travelling. This new shop will have to go some to beat those. |

As you may notice Im a foodie... One downside of living here is that when I go back to UK I cant eat bakery pies and pastries - Sayers, Morrisons, Greggs etc as they give me the most awful stomach ache. Suppose if I didnt eat them by the dozen it wouldnt hurt so much Seriously, I cant touch them or my beloved Warburtons toasties - Im assuming that I may have developed an intolerance to something in them. Sorry for making you drool Pete. Think about something unappetizing that you dont like, it will take your mind off the nice things. x |

Sounds like you have a touch of IBS there piglet, as its the oils/grease in pastry that affects my IBS too |

I use a combo of butter/spry for my pastry and have no problems at all but thanks for diagnosis Dr Pete, I think you're right I just behave myself when I go back to UK and avoid the bakeries - not easy when there's 6 of them within walking distance of my mums house(She lives just off a main shopping street) Anyway, back to my baking - looking for something else to make now... My freezer looks like meals on wheels head office with all those silver trays full of stuff in there! x |
