We have shutters and flyscreens, both fitted by the guy from Kissonegas (sp) cant find his number at the moment, but when I do I will post it.
Wouldn't do without them, for keeping the cold and sun out.

Can anyone recommend someone who can make and fit me a couple of shutters. The cold weather has brought home the fact that the bedrooms are quiet cold and drafty even though double-glazed ! So one answer would be to get some folding type wooden or aluminium style shutters. Does this sound sensible ?? No doubt that they vary enormously in price - but if someone could recommend someone that they have used who perhaps is independant, rather that with a big company, that would be good. Geoff |

Verity can you imagine the amount of work looking after wood shutters. When you look at some older Cy property's with wood shutters they look so tatty. Mind if you have all the time in the world sanding/painting/ then go for it. We have the Aluminium ones so easy to clean they dont warp and the slats dont stick. Marj |

Hi Verity Shutters in the old style? Jim Barr 24342403. A great carpenter who lives in Lefkara. So far he has made me a traditional front door and really solid wood internal doors. Expensive compared to other things but you get what you pay for. I would love the shutters too but must save up !! |

Verity If you fit wooden shutters they look great for the first year - maybe two - thereafter the sun shrinks the wood and the joints become loose, and then you will be in a never ending round of maintenance. Those five year wood treatments only last two years tops here, and shutters are a pain to paint. If you go for aluminium, be very careful about the colour choice. Those Mediterranean blues and yellows may look great from outside, but have you every tried to match them with your curtains and furnishings? White and wood effect tend go with everything. There are some 'timber-like' finishes that may be a more practical alternative to wood, but if it is wood you want, any half decent chippy should be able to make those for you. Ask at the village coffee shop who does what in your part of the world. |

I haven't found anyone who can speak English up there yet, Graham, and I can't speak enough Greek to have a conversation.
I could ask the Muhktar, I suppose. I have not seen aluminium shutters on a stone house. I would have thought they would look odd. Verity.

Verity my friend lives in Strumbi -in a stone house - and has aluminum wood look shutters -they look the part. Its personal choice so go with the wood Verity if that's what you really want. Marj |
