There have been several threads on excessive prices being charged by certain establishments in the holiday areas but these aren't the only ones guilty of this. Last week I was chatting to a local Taverna owner who used to have special Cyprus Evenings, we went quite often together with several of the villagers. This event was a joint effort with two British Holiday companies who brought holiday makers up from Paphos to the village by coach, the total cost for them was 45 euros, 24 euros of this went on the transport from Paphos, that I think is a bit excessive, for his part the Taverna owner received 21 euros, for this he provided a Meze, unlimited drinks, live music, 3/4 dancers, he also provided for the reps and coach driver. Two years ago a regular number was 100/150, last year dramically down to about 30, the Taverna hardly breaking even, due in part to the economy and the Hotels going all inclusive. He told me he offered to drop his share in an effort to increase numbers, the Holiday companies didn't want to know they had no interest in dropping the price, the Taverna has stopped putting the evening on, a shame really because it was a good evening, seems the Holiday companies were just too greedy.

Did you know that the tour companies work on a 3rd % commision

so if the cost of the excursion was 40 euros from the supplier that would end up at 60 euros
so the tour oparator would take 20 euros .. per person profit ..

Neil I find that most offensive ...............

What do we know about Debenture ???

Well he is an anonymous internet Troll, and every post he makes is designed to make trouble! Time you took him down - Sir.

Neil I think you meant to say "some Cypriots cannot be trusted" - slip of the keyboard?

A distinguished police career in papos means , you never got caught

Neil we also have a good Cypriot friend --now living in Larnaca who many years ago policed the Paphos area --and I can tell you some of the things he told us are not to be repeated on a forum. Marj

Just take care children - when posting on this forum about individuals who cannot defend themselves. The forum could find its self in court.
