We took our apartment from the developer in 2005. We have now been contacted by our solicitors saying they are about to begin work on the transfer of the title deeds and need copies of our current Passports. I faxed these across last week and received a reply saying they were contacting the developer about the searate title deeds and would be in touch later.

Does anyone know how long this process takes, is it days, weeks or months. We are keen to know when we may have to provide the funds for this.

Thanks

JOhn

Hi John,

If your solicitor is sorting out the transfer you will be expected to pay the transfer tax fairly soon. The transfer will then be lodged with the land registry and it is then a matter of them putting your name on the title deeds.

We paid our transfer tax in December and our solicitor told us it could be another two years before we get the deeds. However, the deeds are now legally ours. It is just another inefficient government office that delays the final transfer.

That is my understanding, anyway.

Frank/Verity

Thanks for your response.

Verity, I am a bit suprised you seem to have had to pay for the deeds even though they may not be ready for another couple of years. Who holds the money during this period, your solicitor????.

I was hoping the money would not have to be handed over until the deeds were ready for us. That would appear to be more logical, you only pay for something that is ready to be provided to you.

We will be across for a week at the beginning of April so will make sure we call in to see the Solicitor while we are their to confirm the actual process with them. Will keep the money in my very deep pockets until I am forced to hand it over.

Regards to you both.

John

We're still waiting for our deeds, but I have to say I would be wary of handing the cash over until they're actually in my hands!
