Paphos council has confirmed that four out of five swimming pools in the coastal town operate without the proper licences.

According to councillor Akis Chysomilos, only 57 of the 250 communal pools in the town have the correct paperwork.

The figure includes hotel pools, apartment complexes and swimming pools owned by the local council.

An increasing number of houses and apartments in Cyprus have either shared pools or private pools.

Authorities are now looking into the situation.

From what i have read in past threads etc.If you have to have life guard at all times even on complexes these may end up filled in.

Frank,

Apparently you do plus have to pay for testing of the chemicals by the local council. Funny how none of the developers ever said about licences for communal pools.

Hi Trish. My understanding is that this law was only brought in in February 2007. Like many new regulations, it was ill-conceived, not thought through and almost impossible for most communal pool owners to abide by. So, result is, most people ignore...even if they are aware of it. Which most aren't. But ignorance of the law is not an excuse, as the old adage goes, so the owners could be held to account if the worst happens. Lloyd

Llold, do you know where the burden of responsibility lies where communal pools are concerned - is it the residents or the developer?
