I have been trying to find out about certain products with regard to the gluten content. I emailed Coeliac UK as I couldn't find anything about I Can't Believe It's Not Butter and Flora spread.

This is the reply I got.

We can confirm that all butter, spreads and oils are gluten free.

Our Gluten Free Food & Drink Directory should only be used for products bought in the UK. Manufacturers change ingredients and production lines for different countries.

Which means that I can't be sure of anything I buy in Cyprus.

What a nightmare for people who need to follow a strict GF diet.

Hi Verity,

Perhaps you would do better by emailing the manufacturer. More work and time, I know, but better to be safe.

All I have at the moment is the bakery at Geroskipou. Their GF bread is delicious, and if you ask Harry will make cookies. His apple pie is really an apple bread and is quite heavy, but would be okay warm.

Also, the health food shops have a limited selection of stuff, but make sure you know what is GF and don't rely on what they tell you. If your MIL is Coeliac she probably won't be able to eat oats, and I was offered an oat based museli. I have found that I like the Lemon Biscuits that are GF from the health food shop in Chloraka. Papantoniou also does some GF foods in their health food section, including pasta, but I find it hit and miss as to what they stock.

If she wants any titbits - chocolate or biscuits - I would suggest she brings them with her.

If I find anything else out I will let you know.

Hi Verity

We were in Carrefour at the weekend (the one in Limassol near Polemedia) and they had a fair range of gluten free products all together on one shelf.

But they seemed very expensive.... :(

There was a health food stall at the heath and wellbeing exhibit with a gluten free section, I found this for you which is a list of health food shops amongst other things http://www.cyprusspirit.com/dir1102.html

Hope it helps xx

Hi Verity have you tried Quinoea it is the gluten free equivalent to cous cous/pougouri. Holland and Barratt sell it over here but you may come across it over there. If not there are plenty of us counting down till our next trip who wuld be willing to pop some in their case I'm sure, me included.

Bev :)
