I don't know much about greek/cypriot but shouldn't the term be:

Kalimera Sas :?

As you're saying good morning to more than one person

Someone with better knowledge will correct me if I'm wrong

We are all going to have to get the Kalispera correct. I was informed by a local that it is only used after sunset. Kalimera is used up until then, so if somebody knows Greek on here well enough please let us all know.

Don't mean to contradict Pete, but I would just like to know what is the correct terminology.

Verity I know - just trying to show off the only bit of Greek I really know, apart from es si kala - answer kala, polee kala or etsi ketsi (so so) - I like the last one and then of course you reply es si. The whole of my Greek apart from yodi (why) that I can remember, but can understand more.

I use Kalimera up till mid day, Yasou/Yasas from then till evening, Kalispera then Kalinichta, breaking the day up, seems to have worked till now.

sounds good to me.

Kalimera - good day
Yiasou - hi/bye singular ("For you" is the direct jibberish translation)
Yiasas - hi/bye polite/plural
Yia - hi/bye "common slang" / lazy ... but yia as a word means "for"
Kalispera - good evening
Kalinichta - good night

Some other common ones easy to learn ..

Yiamas - cheers ("for us" direct translation)
Yiati - why ("for what" direct translation)
Boo - where
eisai - you are/are you singlular
eisaste - you are/are you plural
eimai - i am
kala - good
entaxi - ok
nai - yes
oxi - no
oi - no common slang/lazy

Its direct translation suggests it should be but i rarely hear it all day, kalimera always seems to be used in the morning or perhaps "before lunch" ?? Then kalispera once getting dark ... can use yiasas/sou all day.

So does that mean I'm a for for - granny - yiayia?

A couple of my favourite words to say is nosocomeo (sp) the word for hospital and aftoginido (sp) - car :D
