Hi there just got back this week after two weeks we have secured a rental property just of tomb of the kings road in Chloraka. So were hoping to get back out there asap. Wev'e been talking to the shipping agent who tells us there will be a charge to bring our electrical things out to cyprus with us. Can anyone tell me what the present rate is please just so that we know what to expect. Thanks in anticipation Mick. :?

What ? like a tax ?
I have never brought electrical goods to cyprus , so dont know ..

do you mean your own personal house hold goods ?
I dont think so , you have already paid the VAT in the UK .. ?
there will be someone who has done this on the boards ,, they will tell you for sure

We had to pay Wharfage on NEW electrical appliances only.
It was supposed to be about £4 per item but we got away with a lot of it as it was unboxed. There should be no tax on used stuff.
It may be that your shipping agent is trying to pull a fast one. Give M&S shipping a try.

If you've had the products for longer than 6 months & can prove it, then you shouldn't get charged at all, we brought all our electrical equipment, everything you can think of & never got charged for an, even a new DVD/HDD which was only 2 weeks old

So I would ask him why you need to pay for anything on top of your shipping costs

Have to agree with others, never paid a penny, but my shipping agents did wrap it up to look older than what it was (brand new oven, hob, microwave, two computers etc etc).

Also just remembered we had all Steve's disco equipment in the container and that is not for domestic use either.

He can't do that, if customs open his container, they'll do him for importing goods  and fine him a lot more than £6 per item that for sure :D

It could happen , but not likely ..
I would also wrap them up well and have them at the back ..

If you don't list them they won't be insured.

Anything new take out of its box - like most things it depends on who your customs officer is and what mood/how many backhanders he's had that week  We got charges 50cyp for "port taxes" - they make it up as they go along so expect to pay something and think yourself lucky if you get away with it but bring them.
