Hi everyone,
Did anyone watch the programme on ITV last night at 8pm UK time about ex pats in Spain being targetted by East European gangs ?
Quite worrying and sad really.
Made me think twice about living in an isolated property with a sat dish on view !
Hope it doesn't affect Cyprus anytime soon !
Got any views?
Gary

Neil,
It was about the increase in voilent crime in Spain with East Europeans targetting what they think are wealthy Brits. It gave some examples of what has happened and suggested that whereas some years ago built up areas were targetted, now the gangs descend on an area inland and target properties with Sat dishes which is a sign of ex pats probably occupying the premises. They raid a number of homes then move on before that are caught.
One example was of an elderly couple who have lived out there for 24 years in a substantial villa and who were threatened with an axe and sledgehammer and who are now too scared to live inland and so have moved into a very modest apartment, sad really.
Although Spanish Police state crime is dropping it does not appear as if this type of crime is dropping.
Sorry to say it but let's hope the Spanish Police catch everyone of them or remain ineffective which means these crooks stay over there and don't look elsewhere!

I heard that spain had a very high
amount of romanian gipsy`s , that they were throwing out the country, they are supposed to be living in make-shift camps ??

That wasn't mentioned in the programme but they did give examples where criminals left marks outside homes which was a code to other criminals ie visit mornings, has dog etc which is an old romany practice.

I read about this Gary, it sounds real scary. Those poor people who think they are going to retire to a peaceful life.

Colleagues at work were telling me this morning (I think they got a bit confused with where my fantasy island is!)

Sounds dreadful. Let's hope that it doesn't put people off from following their dreams, wherever it may be.
