Post subject:  Getting it off my chest!

I have just opened my wages and counted the Euros to see how much my pay rise is. I am so angry and insulted I have to rant a little before I go home in 10mins.

I never expected my pay rise to be much because I know the way things work in Cyprus as I work for a Cypriot. I won't go into details but because of information he has given me about my predecessor and the work I have done since joining the company last year, I had expected a "reasonable" although not enormous increase!

What WAS I thinking......... an increase of 18 Euros per month is what he obviously thinks I'm worth. He has got to be f**king joking with me. Sorry for the swearing but I really have NEVER been so insulted (and I've been about it a bit you know.....humour there because otherwise I will cry)

I'm going home to console myself with a large glass of wine and prepare my CV for next weeks job hunt. I will be telling him exactly what I think next week, the b**tard didn't have the guts to hand the envelope to me he just left it on my desk with many thanks written on it and then scarpered for the weekend.

If it wasn't for the fact that David isn't working full time yet I would have walked out immediately but I can't afford to do that!

I needed that, now I'm calm enough to drive home. Talk to you all soon when a little less angry!

:rant

Calm down, and remember, what goes around, comes around. There is somebody out there who will really appreciate you.

Good luck

Helen why you so upset about this? Look go and see him monday and tell him you are not happy with 18€. He is not a mind reader unless you tell him how you feel, he will not know. You might be surprised, and he up it for you, but no need to go in monday ranting at him. In a calm manner tell him you would like more than he has offered you, and can he give you more?? If he say no then say ok and thank you, then start looking for another job. After all it be his loss not yours

For the second time in a week I am in agreement with Mark. (Must be loose wiring, or something. ).

You have to tell him how you feel - in a calm manner - otherwise it will build up inside you.

It is an insult. But nothing over here surprises me when it comes to money.

Hi Helen

If it was me; I would go in on Monday and give him the €18.00 BACK...

Take a moment to look at the confusion on his face and just 'smile' at him.

Then start looking for a new job ---FAST!!!

Helen you've been given good advice, work as hard as you can be as nice (and two faced) as you can whilst looking for another job, when you've found another job and you do hand in your notice it will upset him even more.

Hello everyone and many thanks for your input. I didn't check my emails until this morning because David and I had a lovely busy weekend which reminded me why we moved here, which is far more important than Euros :D :D

Mark - you have another woman agreeing with you today..... that's exactly what I decided to do so we'll see what happens but I'm not holding my breath

Whatever the outcome I'll deal with it, never been one to cut off my nose to spite my face, it's not worth it  It will be his loss (not big headed) so I'll bide my time.

Thought of you on Sunday Verity, we went for drive through Akamas and stopped to get some snacks in Narnia before going for a bite to eat in Polis.

On Saturday we went to Troodos and took in the mountain air which helps David's chest no-end, so he's feeling better now :D :D 8)

Glad you are sounding more calm today Helen. It was a bit blowy up here yesterday. I take it you came through after the cloud had lifted and before it descended again.

I hope you get something sorted out with your boss.

Hi Verity, yes we came through between the clouds, the sun was shining as we drove up from Akamas. We hit the worst of it on the Polis Road driving back at about 5.30pm!

Sorry to hear about your work, we never know what's round the corner do we? Have had a 2 stage discussion with my boss (interrupted by his wife) regarding my 'pay rise', short version is forget it..... he has excuses for every decision he makes, I didn't expect any more. Cest la vie, I'm employed........ guess I should be grateful!

Well Helen, you are still employed and you have the choice to look elsewhere after you weigh up everything - such as convenience of hours and travel.

I rang one of my colleagues and told her how disgusted I was with the way I had been dropped. I am only an agency worker, but I deserve some indication of what work is available for me, so I was just disgusted with the way it was done.

She must have spoken to the guy, and he has now sent me an email apologising if I had received mixed messages. He will speak with my manager next week when she returns from annual leave as he is sure there is sick cover needed.

He just has a crap management style.

In the meantime I have emailed off for three or four jobs I have seen advertised. You never know. A new chapter may be opening up for me.

Helen,

When you do get another job - wait till your next pay day & forget giving him notice of quitting.

I know of some places where staff have given notice and they've not been paid what they were owed in salary at the end.....

Just bide your time, ride it out - then get outta there FAST!

Once you get home - either give him a call or drop him an email (preferably on Sunday night, if he's expecting you back on Monday morning)

I know it's not how we would do it back in UK - but here, there seems to be very little etiquette on what is the "done thing" when leaving or being asked to leave a job :!:

Good luck.
