I heard that the end of the hunting season finished yesterday - is this right? I really hope so, I get sick of getting woken at 6am every Sunday by gunfire outside my house in Kouklia. Also scared to take the dog for a walk down the lane in case we get shot by some trigger happy nutter. Had a close shave last year, got a ricochet whilst gardening!

maybe yes/ maybe no!! Depends what they are shooting at - many shoot the migrating birds. Yesterday was an extra day being the 29th Feb! We avoid the tracks on Wed and Sun too - but then we meet the hunters on the road!!

I think I have posted this before. This is the table outlining the hunting season.

Open season
Game involved.

November-December (Wednesdays and Sundays only, 16-18 hunting days).
Hare, chukar partridge, black francolin, thrushes, woodpigeon, woodcock.

January-February (Wednesdays and Sundays only).
Thrushes, woodpigeon, woodcock, ducks and geese.

End of August (3-4 hunting days) only in the inland of the island.
Woodpigeon, turtle dove.

September (very limited areas in the coastal regions not exceeding 40 km2, daily, 10-12 hunting days).
Woodpigeon, turtle dove, quail

So, in effect the season should have ended now. Who knows though as Cypriots seem to see rules as guidelines, rather than statutory regulations.
