I have made what is for me a monumental decision today. I have just spoken to one of my co-directors of the company I work for and told him that I have changed my mind about my initial decision to continue to work for them part-time when I move to Cyprus. I work for other companies here too but had already given them notice, so this is the last one. The company has been a huge part of my life, both good and bad from the stress point of view. But despite the feelings of some sadness I feel like somebody has lifted a huge weight from my shoulders.

So, now I can truthfully say that I am retiring to Cyprus. I may change my mind about doing nothing after a few months and if I do I will find something else to do, whether it be working or voluntary work. It most certainly won't be anything stressful that's for sure.

Am I pleased? You bet I am. I can now spend more time learning how to be a "lady who lunches", and spend some quality time with Guy who has long suffered this grouchy stressed career girl wife who has now said "I have had enough of this".

Looking forward to the move even more now.

Oh, Tina

Welcome to the "Ladies who Lunch" club. You KNOW you have made the right decision - why stress out so much, when you don't have to? I am at the end of the first week of the rest of my life, and it's bl**dy wonderful!

You just chill out, get ready for the move, and enjoy your new life - you've earned it.

See you over on the right side

Congrats Tina,

If you get bored with lunching all the time, you could always get a part-time job doing accounts for some people over here

Not that you'll ever get that bored I bet

You are right, I know I have made the right decision. When I was already doing this kind of work at the age of 30 I had said then that I would retire at 55 and this is it. I have to say that if you had asked me even 6 months ago if I would be in the position to be able to do it I would have said there was not a chance.

I feel that I have worked bl***y hard all my life to achieve this and know that I deserve it. I do believe in fate I suppose and things seem to have all dropped into place quite unexpectedly and unplanned.

Jean, lunch club here I come

Pete, doing accounts is the last thing I will do. If I do work again it most certainly will have nothing to do with finance and nothing I have to think about when I go home.

I could even work in a shop

Hi Tina

If you get bored you could go to P.A.W.S for a few hrs, and help them poor dogs ?? I am over on the 15th and plan to spend a few days there myself

That is something I have thought about too and I remember your thread about this. My problem would be not to bring them all home. We would end up with our own animal shelter

Seriously though, voluntary work appeals to me more now, especially as we will be financially secure.

I am over on the 15th too, but the priority will be finding some where to live. Maybe an apartment where we can't have hundreds of rescue animals :)

 @ Tina

You have to be strong Tina. Even if you done 1 or 2 hrs per week that would really help out. Just do not get upset by seeing them dog's there, as they really do love being around other dogs and they get more fuss there than they would being at home  :D

That's OK - I'll take my chances with Narnia. If Cytanet do get there then there's probably too many new houses being built. I will put up with wind-up internet for a while.

Oh well done Tina! :D

You are well on the way to your new life now.

Who knows how you will feel when your are settled in Cyprus? I was thinking just yesterday - how does it change you as a person, when you are permanantly over there?

I have in interest in how different surroundings affect people, and we all know about the positive effects of a sunnier climate.

I think I will ask on another thread.

Please keep us updated on your impending move.

A sunnier climate certainly makes mee feel completely different, even here when the weather is good. I am sure it must make a big difference. Whether it will change me as a person, I like to think not - just make me feel more relaxed.

Well Done Tina, what a decision, you make me think about what I am doing working my socks off in UK.

OH and I were only sayng this week as we are over here really chilled, how we need to wind down and perhaps make exit strategies sooner rather than later for our business.

Even out here in a relaxed environment, I have had 3 phone calls from the office with problems which have kept me awake at night trying to think of appropriate solutions.

I am very envious, but perhaps I may be able to lunch with you very soon, you have certainly given me the incentive.

Maybe true Neil, but only with good bacteria

My decision has been a kick-start as I have been up working since 6 am to get ahead of the game before I leave next Saturday. Before I made the decision I was completely lethargic about doing any of it, and now I am full of enthusiasm to get it all finished. It's great what a focused mind can achieve.

No Verity, not lost for words - I don't believe it.

Enjoy your night out and see you very soon now.
