I have always had an interest in the effects of ones' surroundings on the way people behave and their attitude, and health and wellbeing etc. Apart from the well documented benefits of more sunshine on improving mood, how has living permanantly in Cyprus changed you as a person?, eg, happier, more motivated, less stress and so on. If you should be slightly interested in this topic, you may want to Google for 'Geopathic Stress', it's not 'all in the mind'! Pam |

I think the sun has a lot to do with it.. but thats not news .. yes we are glad of the short winters, less down time ... I could never live in the UK again, just getting of a plane in the UK gives me depression Just thinking of the place now.... I am thinking , how can anyone want to live in that Sh.. hole of a place .. I am not a retired expat either, I still work full time , but I wake up at 7.00am everyday wanting to go to work .. that wont happen in the uk.. 7.00am cant see out the bedroom window as its frosted over , apart from that its still pitch black outside............... can you tell I have gone into one keep the UK.. |

Moving to Paphos / Cyprus comes to us as a "package deal ". It's NOT just the weather, as most people think, the weather can actually be a downside.........sometimes gets TOOOOO hot!! But, for most days of the year, you will waken up with the sun shining in the window. That in itself is a HUGE bonus ++. The people ( in general ) are far more friendly than " back home " and have more time to talk to you or pass the time of day. Our stress levels dropped very, very quickly on arriving here....... Crime is very low in Paphos / Cyprus compared to the UK. Diet / food IMHO is far superior to fast foods etc in the UK. We dont have S.A.D. any more.......... Only problem we both have is....................... Pity we couldn't have done it sooner........... |

I have walked to Kathikas this evening to meet Phil in Imogen's. I have been stopped along the way by people I don't know. Some just to say hello, two young guys in a car who stopped to ask me the way to Ineia, and one guy who saw me on the main road and offered me a lift to Kathikas. In the UK I would have been concerned about the motive of each of these people. In Cyprus I know that they are just being friendly and genuine. I am calmer, more relaxed, happier, less stressed. I hate landing on the UK turf. It is a necessity sometimes as my children still live there and so does Phil's sister. But the tension is palpable. I love the UK countryside. I love a lot of things about the UK. But it is not conducive to good health for me. Things are not perfect in Cyprus. But the overall effect of living in Cyprus is far healthier and brings more happiness than I can find in the UK. Verity. |

Last year, we was in a pub in latchi, and after we had a fewOk ok a lot, just me and brother in law, we had to get a taxi back to the villa about 15k away, so we asked the pub if they could order us a taxi. Before i go on i must stress we always drink in his pub ? The young chap came over and said the taxi was outside for us,so we went outside and we got in and it was the bar manager in his car, to take us home <a> I was shocked to think they would do something like this for us. We even offered him money for the ride , and he would not take it, so nice of him. I think all the cyprions are like this i have not met one bad one YET. |

Having lived in Cyprus for 2 years, albeit at the base & then having to go back & live in Scotland for 6 years before coming back out here 16 months ago, I know what its like to have to suffer the difference between the UK & here, believe me, I suffered from S.A.D. & it was due to the weather, the people, the work, everything There's no way on earth I could have administrated a community forum in the UK because I would just be like an other administrator I know, which isn't healthy at all I love waking up, pulling back the curtains & seeing the sunshine, even in winter, you wake up & it may be raining but you know it will only last a few hours before the sun is out again, just that thought brings a smile to my face I have children & family back in the UK but the only way I'd go back now, is if something happened, which I pray it won't but these things are out of our control, so we just have to take it day by day That's why I love coming on Paphos People everyday, because I enjoy chatting to all the members, who seem to have a new lease of life on our open forum, a freedom to say how they feel without worrying that someone will ridicule them, it's awesome & that's because it's CYPRUS |
