This crossing has no real benefit to the Turks as there isn't much in the NW of the island. Last news was Cyprus was ready to move on this crossing point and made their end ready but Turkey wanted others done first, like Ledra Street. |

There are still only five crossing points This news link from Al Jazeera covers the essentials and where we are up to: http://english.aljazeera.net/NR/exeres/9E33FC42-C69C-46A0-BA23-5E36BCA1109D.htm |

Well I cant see the point other than politics for 3 crossing points in Nicosia (stupid) why not have one up this end so we can have easier access .. they have one at saint Nics down the other end .. ? |

Taken from al Jazeera On Wednesday, Christofias said that though his first meeting with Talat would only be exploratory, he hoped the two would agree to open two new crossing points on the divided island. One would be at Ledra Street, a busy pedestrian thoroughfare in the heart of Cyprus' capital, and the other at Limnitis in the northwest of the island. This is what I wanted .. this is Kato Pyrgos |

Gary it is 30 or 40 km from Polis, so it is a fair distance from Pafos. There is a sign with the km on at the junction in Pano Pafos, but Phil and I are now arguing. I think it is at least 86 km from that point. Phil says it is less. I think it could be more. I hope someone knows cos it will bug me now. Verity. |

Verity your right its a long way from Paphos. If you are prone to car sickness go Nicosia way to the north. The journey to Kato Pergos is through the pine forest going up winding roads and then down winding roads- Marj |

Last Christmas we went to Kato Pygros, to see the charcoal burning which goes on round there. Loads of UN troops around that area. If a crossing is opened there, it will open up the area of Morphu, a large area, and make it easier for people in the Polis area to cross over to the North. |

Gary, I don't think it is easy to answer your question about how long to Kyrenia. I have been to Kyrenia a couple of times, and it has taken me roughly three hours from Narnia, maybe a little longer, going the Nicosia route. If they open the crossing at Kato Pyrgos it could be quite a journey as I think you would be going along mountain roads for a distance, and that always takes up time as they wind back and forth. It would surely be two or three hours - plus the time it takes to get to Kato Pyrgos in the first place. If they open the crossing I will be eager to go through as I love going to Kato Pyrgos. So quiet. Usually. Verity. |

it will make weekend trips to the north much easier.. You will be able to get back across up this end rather than morfu .. then having to go through the mountains.. also , if they open the enclave, then you wont have to drive up and down that hill |
