Just a thought .... if you can remember to take your camera out today, any pictures of kite flying and BBQ`s would be more than welcome ..

Morning Neil,

Hope you have a great BBQ and a Happy Green Monday to you too!

Just come back from Paps with my 'greens' and no biscuits, as I have given them up for lent, did get some ham in though as I know Sophie will want some!

We are going down to the Lighthouse in a bit, so will see if I can get some piccies to put on here. It is quite windy here, so maybe we will see some kite flyers, actually flying past. :eek .. Sophie will be flying her's, so as she is like a bean pole, I will have to put some bricks on her ankles to keep her on the beach...

Wendy. :D

Well, I have no pictures.

First thing this morning it was grey, overcast and not too warm up in Narnia. Then we had a spot of rain. So the picnic that we were going to have got put on hold and I decided to spring clean my bedroom - everything out of the wardrobes, clean them out, etc, etc.

Then the sun came out. By which time I was into the swing of the cleaning.

So we ended up eating our picnic sitting by the pool in the warm sunshine at around 2.30. Then at 3.30 we decided to nip down to Lara to take Jessie for a walk. There were several groups of people on Lara beach. There were kites, but they were not being flown. They were anchored by a rock whilst the guys played with golf balls. Not really a beach activity in my opinion - it was Brits, not Cypriots. But they were having a good time.

We walked Jessie, found a spot on a rock and took in some rays, then as we decided to walk back the quad bikes arrived to spoil everyone's fun. Apart from the guys on the quads, I suppose. As I walked past a large group of Cypriots, who were not too pleased at the guys on the quads, one guy stood facing the sea. It took me a few seconds to realise that he had his nether regions exposed and was peeing into the wind (stupid thing to do, but there you go). I don't think he even registered that Phil and I were walking past along the tide line. Until his missus shouted him. All credit to him he managed to stem the flow and turn away from us. When we were a reasonable distance away he resumed his oblutions. It might have been more courteous to find a bush to pee against, and a little less embarrassing, too.

Anyway, we have returned with the view to sitting outside and watching the sunset, but the breeze is cold up here so I have a glass of wine and am having half an hours catch up on here.

I hope that those who have participated in Green Monday have had a great day. It has certainly been good weather for it.

Well my Green Monday has been spent finishing the building of the shed - finished by lunch time, so down to Lighthouse Beach for a spot of kite flying. Got the cheapo €1 kites from Orphanides (cheap, moi?), and went down with two friends. I got my kite flying no problems, going really well, but one of my friends was having a spot of bother. I took over and got that flying as well, till a Superman kite (flash git  ), decided it was going to ground my kite, and snap the string in the process  So, back to my original kite, and I tied the extra string onto it, and boy oh boy, you should have seen that kite FLYYYYYYYYY - it went up about 60 metres (well, each one said it had 30 metres of line) - it was fantastic. And up to today I was a kite-flying virgin  My friend was itching to take over, so I handed over, and he grounded it, but no sooner was it down, than it was back up again. I have decided that next year, I'm going to have a massive ball of string tied onto mine, and I'm going to threaten any incoming aircraft - well, that's the theory anyway. So, I'm a very tired person now - it takes it out of you you know, this kite flying (got nothing to do with the two large cans of Keo on the beach). We had a nice picnic as well (while hanging onto the kite of course).

See you all down there next Green Monday.

Stupid question I expect, but what is behind the tradition of kite-flying?

Jean, you jammy thing you :? try as she might, Sophie could not get her kite to fly, it just kept twirling round and round then crashed  I had a go with her and still could not do it. We even got passing people to have a go and they could not do it either, so I really dont know why it would not do it.
Someone said get plastic bags on the end to help it fly, so we went to loads of families on the beach for their plastic bags, did what was said and... ..still nothing
What was we doing wrong? :?
Sophie was not very happy at all, poor love, I really felt sorry for her.
So sorry peeps, coz I was helping her for ages, I did not manage to get any piccies, all the dancing etc was finished
Hope someone else got some.
Wendy.

Wendy

Mine ws one of the classic kite shaped ones, not the threepenny bit shaped. A family near us was having the same problem with one that just spun round and crashed. Try one of the €1 ones next year

It really was - I could not believe how much fun it was. Mind you, I was lucky in that it flew so well, it would have been different otherwise.

Hi.

About the kite flying tradition...according to my husband it's to keep their mind off the toilet.
I have wondered what they all do for the loo all day in the fields, with so many people around.
Maybe it all started when someone said 'I need to fly my kite'.
