Indeed - if you're onto a winner, worldwide patents are the way to go - patenting in Cyprus wouldn't stop anyone copying your idea elsewhere! Maybe if you tell me your idea, I'll let you know if I think it's any good or not.... |

Hi Arsenal (real name?). To introduce a serious note What you need to do first of all is go see a patent lawyer. There is a very good one - probably the best on the island - based in Larnaca. His name is Mr Cristos Theodoulou and his credentials are first class. Can't find a proper website for the firm, but see: http://www.theodoulou.com.cy/theodoulou.html and http://www.theodoulou.com.cy/pic.html No good going to see the Patent Office in isolation. Rather like the Inland Revenue, they can only tell you all about procedures and take your instructions, but they cannot give you the same kind of specialist advice and help as a patent lawyer. Any patent made in Cyprus will now (I believe) automatically apply to all 27 countries of the EU, and a patent lawyer will check for you to see if there are any similiar patents registered throughout Europe...and further afield if you like. Patenting your invention - assuming it is patentable - will be a LOT cheaper with a Cyprus lawyer than a UK lawyer. As someone observed earlier, that's not to stop the Chinese copying your invention and exploiting it as much as they are able. We frequently find our pool safety fence pics on Chinese manufacturers websites!! Anyway, for what it's worth, that's the way to go. Needless to say, patent lawyers don't come cheap, but there again nor does the whole patent process. Lloyd |

Hi Chas, (arsenal) I had an idea about a time saving product a few years back but couldn't afford to get it patented, so never bothered but its still not been made, so who know's I might do it some day |

Yes Pete, it used to be the case that you could easily spend £10-£20k in England getting something patented. (And that was years ago). So you really need to have the means to exploit your invention if you are to recoup that kind of outlay. Lloyd |

Because its none of our business Chas, if you want to tell anyone, you'll do it in your own time, nit with us asking |

Don't trust anyone who has signed the OSA. Didn't that butler to Princess Diana have to sign it too? As Frank says - trust only in God. The one with the capital G - not the one in lower case. Verity. |
