Before the original thread gets buried with so many posts.Trish and Jean came up with brill idea about car pooling where you all share the driving and get to drink for 3 do's and then drive once. What a great idea.

I am sure jean and trish won't mind me putting his post up to get names started

If I arrange a meet up at The Last Castle some people who don't have 4X4's will need a lift, so it is worth thinking about it now.

If we do The Last Castle I will have to put the post up early as the place gets packed very quickly. It would be good to know if there are people with 4X4's who are willing to take those who don't have them.

We have an old RAV4 and don't mind giving a lift to two people.

It will be in the summer time, Frank. It is only open when the weather is guaranteed to be good.

There is a July date set - last Friday in July. Are you saying you would like the Last Castle whilst you are here, Frank. If so we would change the date to the Saturday as it is only a lunchtime venue.

Some of our members will be working whilst you are soaking up the sunshine, so it can't be on the Friday. If this is what members would like, I can arrange it.

Ok. I will look at arranging that. Just for you, Frank. Well, not really just for you. For anyone else who is interested too.

I read somewhere that the road has improved and this guy used it regularily in his Toyota Carolla with 4 folk. Worth checking out , but we could squeeze 3 in the back of the L 200 if it would help.

It has improved greatly. We went down it last weekend - got "lost" when exploring some tracks and ended up out at Viklari. I wouldn't want to take my Almera out there though, and if you have a hire car it wouldn't be covered by insurance if you hit a pothole and did any damage.

This post sounds more like the '4x4 clubs' instead of car-pooling to the coffee mornings

Make sure you don't run over anyones toes now :rofl

Jean,

My toes are well protected from bad drivers, as I'll be sat in my L200, well above any reach

The car pool idea is good but my little Matiz (dinky toy) can't make it up some of the hills if I have passengers.

Regarding the Last Castle I don't think a 4x4 is essential as long as you watch out for pot holes. We drove there in a 2WD hire car last time we were on holiday and have also driven the Matiz (990cc) there too with no problem.

I was gutted I had to leave my Pajero behind in the UK because of the import duty and tax charged here! My friend has been using it since September until the UK car market picks up a bit, when I will sell it. :( The fun I could have had with it here in Cyprus (and in Cyprus I wouldn't have been aggressively pursued by the anti 4x4 brigade even though I lived in the country up a dirt track impassable in the wet weather and 5 miles from the nearest shop) 8) !!!!!

We also drove to the mountains and back on the offroad tracks in the Matiz, at least it's cheap on petrol! :)

Helen - I had a Mattie in the UK - a blue one - they're like a Tardis though, they're so small to look at, but when you get inside there's loads of room  Not sure I would have gone off roading in it though.

Pete I had noticed (L200 basically the same as a Pajero) but unfortunately until I sell my Paj in the UK and save up a bit I won't be able to pay Cyprus prices :( . However, in the future............ 8)

I remember you had a Matty Jean, a tardis they are! I went offroading in the UK in my Pajero with an owner's club and they are brilliant vehicles but wouldn't do anything challenging in Matilda. I did some serious stuff in the UK with lots of instruction so we had super safe fun in all sorts of conditions..... my nickname in the club was Hellonwheels (don't know why?)

It isn't about whether a car will cope with the road, it is about whether you will be covered by insurance if anything goes wrong.

Anyone who wishes to take that chance should know what they may be risking.

PP will not be held liable for any damage to any vehicle.

Good point Verity although I've never damaged anything offroad (unlike David who lost all my mudflaps in a pit of mud as well as a number plate). He's never lived it down ...........

Just to confirm that the July Taverna Club will be on Saturday 24th July (to accommodate Frank and Yummy Mummy - so you had better be there :pow ). I will arrange for it to be at Viklari (The Last Castle). We should be able to guarantee the weather in July. I hope.

I will have to get a shift on with finding somewhere for the May and June clubs cos it all comes round so quickly.
