Does anyone take any of the above?

If so - which ones and how often?

Do you feel any benefits or have you stopped and feel the difference?

I use to take vitamins before coming to Cyprus, but since being here I haven't taken any.

I'm just wondering now if I should go back to taking them.

Thanks all

I take Cod Liver Oil capsules, Glucosamine and MultiVitamins for the Over 50s all bought on-linefrom Healthspan. Do they work? Well I can walk again without pain in the hip joints, which was not possible before I started taking the first two - several years back, but whether the latter are necessary if you enjoy a good diet is open to conjecture. They certainly didn't help with the damned virus which has kept me indoors for most of the past three weeks :(

OK Molly you asked!

In alphabetical order:

Vit A+D, (winter only)
Agnus Castus
Vit B1, (only on hioliday to prevent mozzie bites)
Vit B6
Black Cohosh
Vit C
Vit E
Evening Primrose Oil
Fish oil Supplements
St John's Wort, (but not on holiday).

Yes I know that if you eat a well balanced diet (which I do), that you shouldn't bother with vitamins and supplements, but I have taken these for so long that I believe that they are doing me some good, especially the Agnus Castus, Black Cohosh and EPO - they must be because I don't have any symptoms which ladies of a certain age are supposed to suffer from.

I buy them form Holland & Barrett when they have their 75% off promotion which is quite often.

Pam :D

Thanks KG - does Glucosamine do the same thing (or is it similar) to the Cod Liver Oil?

Pam - I've never heard of Agnus Castus and Black Cohosh what do they do? (thanks for your response)

Molly the web site is http://www.healthspan.co.uk
I find the price is far better than H&B the likes of glucosamine 360tabs for £10.95 -- EOP 180 tabs £5.45--agnus castus 180 for £7.95--Black Cohosh 120 for £12.95. Take a look at the site and see for yourself. Its a long way to H&B but healthspan deliver to CY£2 p&p Marj

It is great if you take these and they benefit you but may I add a little word of caution here. I am on regular medication for a long term illness requiring continual monitoring which (thankfully) is in recession at present, partly due to the lifestyle and climate here in Cyprus. :D :D

However, in my search for more natural remedies, I have been told that taking additional vitamins etc, unless you have a deficiency can in fact be detrimental. I'm not saying anyone should stop taking these but (IMHO) it may be wise to consult a medical professional before taking such items. My GP in Chloraka is supportive of 'alternative medicine' but even she has advised caution and consultation before packing your body full of elements it may not require. :)

I soon start creaking if I stop taking mine . Look out for the special deals from Healthspan , often 50% off.

Before you buy any supplement you can read about it and the can's and cant's of that particular product. I know the doc in Chloraka she used to be in Tala and my first visit to her put me off going again -- she had me holding a lump of rock to my chest --with one arm outstretched --then she said dont let me push your arm down --- well --- that was me out of there -- but each to their own . I will stick to Dora. Marj

Thanks Marj.... I've found her very good so far and my situation is unusual, she took the time and trouble to get the advice of a specialist in the field before treating me to make sure nothing was missed. I'll see how I get on as it's early days yet and, as no insurance company on the planet will cover me, I have to be careful about my treatment! :D

How quick, reliable and secure do you find ordering online? Who do you use? What experiences have you faced? Who wouldnt you recommend?

:offtopic

Yes Marj, thank you, that's absolutely right.
We as patients have to trust our medical professionals otherwise we won't just be ill but stressing about getting the right treatment compounds the problem. I've dealt with many doctors (good and bad) over the years because of moving around a great deal. I also worked in the NHS for 25 years so I can usually spot if something's not right. It's always good to gather others' opinions and I appreciate your input. 8)

Sorry people - handing back the topic now.......

I take Glucosamine for my dodgy knees and Echinacea which is supposed to keep colds and flu at bay. I take it every winter and haven't had a bad cold since I can remember so it works for me :D

Tanny when I lived in the UK I used the same company --healthspan--as I do in CY I just use my Lloyd's debit card to order and it usually takes about 4 to 5 days for delivery. I find this a good service and cheaper than H&B in UK. Marj

When I fell off the edge of reason last time, around three years ago, I started taking different supplements to see whether they would help. I couldn't take the St. John's Wort - I think because there was a query with my liver function if I remember rightly. The Black Cohosh played havoc with my gut. I took Vitamin B 12 or 6 (can't remember now) glucosamine and calcium, and cod liver oil capsules as I had painful hands and knees. I took this stuff for six months and felt no different.

I came over here and don't get the pain in my hands to any great degree, and my knees are no different.

However, I have now had the tentative diagnosis of Coeliac's disease, and if that is confirmed then I wouldn't have been absorbing the supplements properly any way, so maybe that has a bearing.

The one thing that I do rate for wellbeing - and I am such a sceptic that I am amazed at myself for giving this credence - is Reiki. I saw it work wonders for my dog, and I believe that it has helped me to deal with the last few months of health problems. Don't ask me how it works, but you don't have to believe in it for it to work, otherwise my dog wouldn't have benefited seeing as how he had no idea he was receiving it.

Verity. 8)
