Hi everyone.

I've had my arm twisted by some friends to go and see a psychic/medium this Saturday. I have been to one many years ago and i must say she was frighteningly accurate with her predictions.

So, what do you think? Can they really see into the future or is it just a stab in the dark at saying what you want to hear? Be interested to hear your experiences and opinions.

Marina.

I think I sit firmly on the fence with this one. :?

I have often thought of going to one just out of curiousity, and know people who have been and said they were brilliant.
My friend went to one just before Christmas who told her I was going to sell my house soon ... I'm still waiting

My stepdaughter went to one and came home all excited because the woman was sopt on with family names and circumstances etc but when I listened to the tape recording of her reading I thought it was a load of rubbish and that Allison played right into her hands by answering leading questions and giving her too much info to go on.

So I think that put me off parting with my hard earned cash and going myself but I am still curious

Julie, i do believe that you can play into their hands by giving too much information. I am planning to give nothing away and see what they come out with. I just can't see how someone can look at a pack of cards and be able to interpret what is going to happen.

However, i remain fascinated all the same and if she tells me i'm going to meet a young, fit handsome stranger then i'll definitely know it's a con as i should be so lucky!!

The only reason I pleading the 5th is because I'm Agnostic, so I don't believe in anything especially these kind of people & because I'm a very opinionated person, I can get carried away with my replies

See, you've got me started now

In my book its akin to religion.

If you believe in it and it gives you faith, and comfort then good for you. I do believe that by doing the ground work on a subject and asking theright questions, and giving the answer in certain non specific ways the recipient can be left to relate it to their own situation themselves without necessarily being led.

For example, if a person comes to you limping, you can say " I see you had an accident in the past"
"No, Ive been like this from birth"
"Exactly you had a mishap in the womb"

But still the limpee is left thinking that the Psychic knows the answer.

The best one Ive seen for a while was the Psychic fair being held at a town hall that was well advertised for weeks, had all the signposts on the road in and out of the town with the details. On the morning of the fair the newspaper had the article "Psychic fair cancelled due to roof collapse", you think they would have seen it coming!!

I have to say I sit firmly on the sceptical side of the fence - I've read a few of James Randi's books on the subject and he goes to great lengths to explain how many of these people operate and manage to make a living from it. He does stress that in many cases they do actually genuinely believe they have this gift, but are actually just very good an intuiting information from people - think Derren Brown for someone who does this brilliantly but claims no psychic ability whatsoever.

Oh, and if you find one that's any good, Randi has an ongoing 1 million dollar prize on offer for anyone who can prove any form of paranormal or psychic ability under test conditions - plenty have tried but no-one has even come close to claiming the prize - read into that what you will!

whats the point in having someone tell you something thats going to happen ..
why not just wait, then you can find out for free ... If you get my drift..
(If its gonna happen, its gonna happen)

Morning all,

A little story from way back when i was repping in Greece one summer. My colleague had a friend back in the UK who claimed to be psychic. We would be out having a drink and this lady in the UK would ring up and say, one example, you will meet or become associated with someone whose name starts with initial D and linked to the colour blue. We all sat there laughing thinking what a load of old tosh. Anyway, later on the same evening doesn't she just meet someone by the name of Dimitris and it turned out he was a coach driver and his bus was blue!! That's just one example of many things that were predicted tht summer.

So, how can someone many miles away tune in to what's going on and predict something like that? I find it truly fascinating.

I was that intrigued by this lady that when we returned to UK in the winter i travelled up to see her. As far as i'm aware she didn't know anything about me, certainly nothing that had happened outside of the previous summer and she was spot on with a lot of things that did in time prove to be true. :o

Marina. :D

Another occassion while doing some work for a secured lender, I was visiting a Psychic client in the Glasgow area to help her sort out her finances, did my job, was helpful etc etc. 2 years later, I got the same name and address through, called her and went to visit her. When I chapped the door she said "Oh its you again!". But as I explained she should have sen it (or me ) coming.

To compound matters, she had also started doing aromatherapy, Indian head massage, rieki, hand soothing and about as many different categories of alternative therapy as you could imagine, thus reinforcing my personal belief.

However as I said if an individual takes comfort from it without being "led" by it then it can only be good.

That's where they can be very clever, keeping things as generic as possible so that people who want to believe can twist actual circumstances to fit.

If you think about it, you would be hard pushed to go for very long without meeting someone with the initial D and a connection to blue - Dave wearing Blue jeans, Debbie with blue eyes or on here we have BigDutch, whose username is in Blue font!

My question is, if "psychics" get their guidance from spirit - which are presumably people who are dead - why would you want to disturb the dead just to be told you will meet someone connected with the letter D and blue?

I don't think that people who claim to be psychic are necessarily lying. I just think that they don't know what they are dabbling with.

I don't want to know the future. The certain thing is death - and I already know that. I don't want to know how and when. The rest is an adventure.
