I did my tax disc on line last year - no problem, but this year I had an MOT as well.
The MOT disk will be posted to the address on the log book but we haven't lived there this century!

I can't find a way to 'register' to change my address, can anyone help?

I'm using firefox, but when I tried M$IE it was worse (gave an error message)

:?:

J B,

I've not registered yet myself, I was going to leave it until the 14th, as you can't get your tax disc until then anyway, so maybe thats why you're unable to register just yet :?

I've been there - then it gives two boxes to enter your name but then no go/next button :?:

Not sure who's done it but I have & it took 2 mins only :D

Its got to be the easiest way of getting car tax in the world

I didn't even have to register, I just put in my Car reg, the last 3 digits of my passport & selected 6 or 12 months, then it took me to JCC for payment, then I printed the disc off :D

Thats is so, so, so easy

A tip for anyone who has not used the system before, you get the option to save the disc or print right away, saving it is a good idea as you can print another one if it fades badly or if the system goes down while you are using it { happened to a friend of mine}, you still have a copy of the disc.

a great system and seriously fast, but doesn't a car need to be road legal to have this "Tax disc" !!? No MOT details required? No Insurance ?

Doesn't look like it Dutch, that'll be why there are so many scrap heaps on the road in Cyprus

Post subject:  February 29 deadline for road tax disc renewal

MOTORISTS have until February 29 to renew their road tax, the Road Transport Department (RTD) announced yesterday.

Since July last year, renewal forms through the post have no longer been sent out, with the RTD stating that vehicle owners must take responsibility for renewal before police checks begin on March 1.

Renewals can be done online at http://rtd.mcw.gov.cy, at co-operative and commercial banks, citizens advice bureaus and at the RTD itself.

According to RTD Director, Soteris Kolettas, the choice available, “will make life so much easier for the public and this is very important to us.”

He added that paying online is, “easy, quick and secure. Just use your Visa, Mastercard or American Express credit cards and you can renew in less than five minutes.”

Takis Fekkos is JCC’s General Manager and he explained that 75 per cent of renewals were performed online last year.

“This shows that we are helping to make people’s lives as convenient as possible.”

An online renewal system has been in place since February 2006 in a government effort to cut down on the long queues and paperwork for the annual or six-monthly tax.

The online system is available 24 hours a day. After entering the necessary information, you will be asked to enter your insurance details and then to type your credit card number upon which your road tax dues will be charged.

Vehicles that don’t have a valid MOT certificate cannot receive road tax renewals.

People have been urged not to wait until the last few days of the deadline to renew as this “will congest the system.”

Those who do not wish to renew their road tax have been advised to either issue the RTD with a certificate of destruction (which can be obtained from licensed scrap heaps) or submit a request for the vehicle to be taken out of circulation.

Over the previous five years, the government lost over £38 million due to vehicles not having up-to-date road tax.

But if the rumours & papers are true, then come the end of Feb 08, the police will be stopping people & fining those who don't have road tax... just look out for the queue's along the street, while the police fine all the scrap heaps...

Just done both the van and car, as you say easy, apart from the fact that both of them do not have the correct address - received one MOT disc but not the other one - just went and checked at the other end of the street and they left it in their post box as it didn't belong to them, thinking someone will be along to get it.

Anyway tried to change the addresses on both of them but stated that it did not recognise the identification number and to contact the Ministry of Transport, both vehicles are registered to Steve, but one is in his passport number and the other is in his alien number and wouldn't accept either. Oh well plenty of time I suppose until the next MOT is due.

I know there's a press release out saying that you can get your car tax up until the end of February 08, but just remember 2 things:

1) If you don't have it & you have an accident, then you're insurance will probably be invalid, so the cost will be on your head
2) Its also back dated to the 1st Jan 08, so it won't be any cheaper, in fact, you'll be paying the same amount for less time

So be careful if you don't have it already, as you could lose more by not getting it now :!:

Sermon over

that is reassuring !! In many ways i`m impressed with the way the powers that be use internet services here but then considering the young age and small size of the country there isn't that much to change when new systems are brought in !

While I don't think anyone will suffer any legal (or insurance) issues if they don't renew their tax immediately, it is easy to forget about it.

I bought my first car here in 1994 and I have never known the tax forms to be issued before February and no-one gets prosecuted until at least the end of that month - the date being announced in the press. Rumour has it that there are no forms being sent out this year, but they said that last year also and the forms were still sent out in February as before.

Interestingly there was supposed to be no rounding up of exchange between the Cyprus Pound and the Euro, yet the Department of Transport sneaked in a couple of extra Euros on my car tax bill :?
